I wanted very much to make this post for a while now. First let me outline my last three days in a popular farming spot in that passageway that leads up the the castle in Sorcerers Lab. This is a spot where to gain access to the area ahead you have to either go up the storm drain from the basement (which didn't happen in these examples) or clear the area of mobs, which if if the passage is camped means running in front of someone else.
It's a post about politeness and treating people with some respect. If I'd have been the other party in the real examples below, I would have stopped at the group and said
'Hey mind if I go into the castle?'
or
'Hey are you busy in this spot?'
Its nice and polite, and hurts no one. Its remarkable that I have to post this, but it seems greed drives some people to be seriously rude!
------------------------------------------------------
Day 1. I spent about an hour clearing the golem pit repeatedly, until Kalvah popped. I'm just re-clearing that mob that sits right around over the front of the pit. Meanwhile I see two streaks of players. And its a certain Druid and his warrior box who charge up onto the open area by the castle doors, literally in front of where I'm clearing to and engage a mob near the pit. I'm still killing the golem at this point. I'm annoyed that my work is in vain, so I try to make the pull (perhaps I shouldn't have) with my cleric. I try pull out Kalvah, but perhaps I didn't get enough agro, maybe the other guy re-agroed, in the mess I couldn't tell. I ran back to the passage and Kalvah didn't follow. I head back onto the open area where the other guy is now fighting and Kalvah is now agro'ing him. He says
Him:'Mob engaged me, you didn't get enough agro. Or you trying to train me?'
Me:'Well you just ran in front of me, perhaps this is not a good place to stand?'
He kills Kalvah and loots the drop I've been a long time waiting on. I was really annoyed, but not as annoyed as when the guy totally /ignor'ed my tells. My guild said I should take it to a petition, but I'm sure thats the last thing I would like to do.
Day 2. I'm in the same spot. This time its the Icey Watcher. I'm clearing the last mob (once again) but when I come out to finally pull the Icey Watcher all I see is a corpse! Bizarre. I
/shout ok cmon who killed the Icey Watcher?
The only other player currently in zone is back before the village, it can't have been him. He was nice and sent me a tell saying that a bard was in zone. The bard must have streaked in and nabbed the kill! Long time wasted again.
Day 3. I'm killing the mob next to castle door, by pulling back into the passageway. This time a monk and his shammy alt. ran past me and engaged the Icey Watcher! I'm logged into the Forum, but sitting watching this guy camping the area in front of where I'm sitting.
Me: /say I just cleared out this area. And once again someone leapfrogs me!
Him: /say ????

Perhaps the only way to stop this is to sit on the spawn spot, but that should be a worst case scenario where people are just really rude. And in some places with a larger area, it's not possible. If someone has cleared to a spot, it would seem to me a common curtesy to at least ask them if they mind you moving in front of them. But I mean in reality if someone is working a spot, they probably will mind!
EDIT: I know certain spots are bound to be popular, but since when is leapfrogging now standard practice in the SOD community?
