PL Bug and treasure maps

We had some issues last night concerning the PL bug while doing a VH tmap and had to restart it twice due to this. Is there anywhere to make it so if a character gets the PL bug and has to camp out and in there is a small window for them to get back into the game without losing progress? It doesn't seem 'right' for the PL bugs to handicap an entire raid.

made this exact same post a looong time ago and got no response. Im still a bit curious myself

thought it would be neat to have a one person buddy system. whenever i visioned (before i ever touched one) tmaps i never thought you would do it alone, always doing it with a friend to get loots. so having a buddy to add a link to tmaps incase one happens to ld or pl bug to keep it active. i already know of some drawbacks to this tho, like having the big tank of the guild be linked up just because it's easier to keep them alive. but keep it dependant on the person with the map who still has to dig and that person is still the only one to dig. if the map holder dies then game over until next try like it is currently. the buddy would be there just incase to keep attempt active...

good idea? bad idea?

Don't think it's a good idea tobe honest Thaf...would be way more complicated than is needed IMO. Just make it so if somebody gets that damn bug then they have a minute to camp it off and get back.

yea,its an really annoying thing on Tmaps having to start from 0 again when the digger goes PL,the other day we had that happen on a hard tmap; after 4 hours and 18 waves of mobs, which for obvious reasons was quite annoying.

Oddly enough I noticed the past two days, the PL bugs have increased significantly. Dunno why, but I use to get it once in a while, and the past few days I've been getting it every couple of hours. Maybe it's just bad luck or something.

Does anyone know why the PL bug happens? Just from a pure curiousity point of view. Its kind of strange how it happens, and i wonder why and how. For example, we pretty much know its from being in the same zone for a certain amount of time. Is data getting corrupted between our clients and the server, which is why zoning/camping "resets" it?

I seem to remember some talk in IRC about how it was probably a memory leak issue. This wasn't from Wiz though. Honestly, the whole PL bug prob would get my vote for fixing before any other non-urgent bug, and before any content/changes are added. But meh, I guess I'm the only one who feels this way, as the devs seem more inclined to add content and make changes than fix this (huge?) bug.

Let us consider that you run a server for fun.

Let us consider that you can do two things today after a long day of class. You can either dream up some content and make something exciting, or you can endure soul-crushingly boring code for 6 hours looking for a bug to fix.

That's not to say Wiz doesn't do both, but come on, give the guy some slack.

I think we are giving Wiz some slack. He does some amazing work to this server, and I'm sure what Phlit said, and what I think is absolutely in no way an attack on him or the staff. The PL bug is pretty crippling. I am sure everyone on the server can recant a story or situation where everything was honkey dory, when bam extreme Packet Loss out of nowhere and everything goes to hell. Especially when its a CH chain cleric, who gets it just as we charge :) Its one of those things about the server, I guess we're all so used to it now, noone ever says anything about it. But I know if it was fixed, it would be the happiest day ever.

Can someone sorta explain what the PL bug is? Like... I understand it's a Packet Loss bug... what I'm going for is more what you see from your end...

There are a couple quirky/interesting things I see happen sometimes, and I wonder if they're from PL or what. So, say I'm playing along and suddenly "Oh noes!!!!1 I have teh packet loss!!"... what is it that I will notice happening?

My experience of the packetl loss bug is that I have an ungodly amount of lag, except I don't go link dead, just sit there starting at my friends and the still full health mob that they killed it 3 minutes ago. I then /q out.

I think alot cut him slack and give him credit were its due even with the new changes good or bad... but lets face it.. the PL bug is probly the #1 detractor and annoyance to the game, there is almost noone that doesnt have to deal with it on a daily basis if they are on for a few hours trying to xp,group quest, or raid etc... if that bug was to up and go away it would be like the 2nd coming of christ.. not saying alot of people will mysteriously show up but it would make the game alot more funner not having to deal with such a big hindorence... that and the weird group bugs with invite disband and mysteriously joining/disbanding and joining other peoples... I mean you get a group of friends together looking to enjoy themselves... and its like you get slapped around with a smelly fish instead somedays. I had this one group a week or two ago that had someone get PL every 10-15minute like clockwork... just randomly someone would get railed.

When I say that Im not talking about indivdual classes and problems but just the game as a whole and its content vs this level of bug which effects or will effect everyone sooner or later.

it's basically when for literally no reason the lag meter goes completely red and fluxuates between 80% and 99% packetloss.. for some reason you can still send messages out to the group, and you can camp to clear it (if you havn't started casting, then it will only let you /q), but you can't receive any information from the server.. mobs stay alive on your screen, messages don't come to you, etc

however i have seen this a few times where the lag meter is perfectly fine but it is essentially the same thing.. and the solution is the same
