Pets and pet weapons

Boehm

Dalayan Elder
Was the base damage of pets adjusted for the pet weapon buff for mages? My pet is now averaging 40-50 less dps a parse and generally operates without weapons. Any help would be appreciated.

I noticed today when tossing a 2h pierce weapon in primary and a 1hb in secondary for my pet the pet seemingly wasn't not hitting with the 2hander (primary hits as "bites" instead of "pierces" and no procs) even though it was equipped. I don't have a ton of experience with pet weapons so if this is an oversight or misunderstanding of how it works I apologize but I figured I'd mention it just in case.

iirc you can only put one 2hander on your pet with a 1hander in offhand and it will work

at least this is what i have found.

Yes that is what I did but does the primary hit message reflect the weapon type you have equipped because if so something was definitely up

EDIT: Sorry, 2hb in first post was a typo was meant to be 2hp + 1hb and obviously both showed as equipped normally in petinv

Just did some tests and only 2h Pierce weapons seem to be displaying this way, whether the pet is actually using the weapon and it's only a display bug I don't know. Was testing using Ikild Spear.

as of a few days ago it sounds like you should have gotten a pet dps boost.... im not sure on the mechanics tho. i hardly use my pet so i never use weps:)

Few pet-related changes as of a few days ago:

*Changed how pets benefit from equipping weapons. In the past a weapon's DMG could replace a pet's maximum per-hit damage, but only if the weapon DMG was higher than the pet's natural damage after Focus Effects and whatnot. At higher levels, this basically meant that pets only benefited from procs and stats on weapons. Now, in the new system, a pet's per-hit melee damage will ALWAYS benefit from having a weapon equipped, gaining a bonus to their final maximum damage based on the weapon's ratio. Higher weapon damage/delay ratios give higher damage bonuses. So a pet will always be better off even with a no stats, no proc, low damage rusty dagger than with no weapon at all, no matter what level they are.

*Changed pet follow behavior somewhat; they now follow their owner on a leash rather than automatically taking a position to the south-west of their owner. Thanks to Dev-Jumbers for this one.

Your pet has functionally the same health as the necromancer pet and is capable of 200+ dps on trash and 150 on bosses with appropriate buffs and focii. The necromancer pet mostly caps out at 139 on bosses averaging @1% of the bosses health as a comparison. The only time you shouldn't have you pet up is if the mobs in question perform a reactive proc on aggro since you can't hold him.

Also, the only reason I asked this was both my pet and anothers, who i knew did not have weapons, seemed to have the same anomaly across several boss parses. Frankly, it just looks like I forgot something since he was fine last night. I, also, generally do not look at trash as necromancer trash parses are irrelevant.
