pet agro issues

I notice that pets have been getting insane agro specially necro pets and at some points with my shadow knight trying to get agro off a necro pet casting my agro spell and debuffs dosent do the trick. happened a couple of times hunting at the orc fort in EW, usually i dont group with pet classes and my jaw just about dropped to the floor when no agro spell could get it off the pet. needless to say necro had to play without pet because it kept getting killed. also notice that shammy pets get a good amount of agro and I can see how this could be use in ways to sploit the game(a.k.a let the pet get agro and then everyone attacks and only heal the pet). I asked the necros if their pet had /cmd pet taunt off, and yes they were off. on another issue can the SK debuff line(spells used mainly to keep agro) get some resistance lowered, been getting resisted alot and when not having JB or kei it has been a pain keeping up with the mana, I dont think my SK's cha is bad, but hope something can come out of this if not wrong.

was root in use?

I have noticed this, but thought that someone was using root.

With root, the shaman pet will ALWAYS be the closest target because of it's shape. Beastlord and druid pets are next, then the narrow form of the necro pets. Mage pets, the likely cause of the root, rarely get aggro because they stand further away than most players.

Even with /pet no taunt and a mage fire pet, Kreacher continued to get aggro in one series that I can recall. In this case, my pet was many levels lower than the mage pet. It was not a dps issue... I assumed it was releated to shaman pets being so low level that the mob attempts to kill them as an easy kill first.

With the exception of root, the only pets I really have any trouble keeping taunted off are mage air pets (because of the stun) and the lvl 65 mage pet. As Mog mentioned, if the mob is rooted, then pets seem to be able to stand on top of the mob, and I can't get close enough to be the target.

my pet (necro) manages to outagro a lot of lvl 65 tanks. makes me laugh even when i have taunt off

Only because I am gimp Jess, but on that note the mage Relic pet outagro's me too. If I am hasted I can give it a run for its money though.

If the mage will give the tank a few seconds to build some aggro it's a lot less of a problem. The pet always tries to nuke upon initial engage. The stun/slow/DD is often enough to pull aggro if the tank hasn't built up much yet.

Yeah, I'm still learning a lot with the relic pet. The other night I started waiting a bit longer and it helped a lot with agro, altho it can still steal agro from tanks under or at 65 without some aa's/gear...but that's to be expected. You mention a slow proc so I have to ask about that. I've not had much luck finding out what DoT the mage relic casts. It breaks mez, and I would assume a slow wouldn't do that. Anyone that can enlighten me? There is also no mention of DD dmg with the stun land.

Sorry for hi-jacking, just a good chance to throw out a question.

The mage relic pet doesn't have a DD in his proc (per the spell file). Just a 0 sec stun, slow and a DoT that it says does 0 dmg/tick. So, Mycroft, how long until you retire? Seems every mage that gets relic pet retires shortly after, thus explaining why Awardis and I are still here. LOL

My husband and I are still under level 15 with our characters. When my pallie was 10 and his mage and chanter were 12, his pets were consistently pulling aggro from the pallie. I was kind of surprised at that. I don't remember on eqlive having so much trouble holding aggro from the pets if taunt was off.

It was an air pet. We were in the Warrens, and prefer the air pet when dealing with casters. Still, I don't remember the air pets pulling so much aggro on EQLive, even the high level ones. My warrior never had a problem maintaining aggro from them.

Comparing things to live from here is pointless. They use the same engine yes, but the content and gameplay is customized.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I was just commenting that there was a difference. The thread was a suggestion to look at pet aggro issues, and I was chiming in that I thought there were definite pet aggro issues and not just at the higher levels.

*rolls eyes and stalks off mumbling*

Thus far I'm unable to 'aggro kite' or 'pet kite' however you want to say it with my necro... I tell my pet to hold off, and not taunt... I stack 3 DoTs (lvl 1, and 2x lvl 5 DoT's... I think those are teh levels) and a Debuff, lifetap them once, smack 'em with my big stick, etc... and then before I run off, reapply the snare/DoT darkness line I have... Send my pet in and take off running, waiting for it to die, and about 3-4 ticks into the 'kite' the mob has turned on my pet... Haven't given him any gear of any sort, no buffs, etc...

So, I dunno if this is common, and it may just be a low level thing where the necro pets hit harder than necro DoTs, etc.. but that's what I'm noticing thus far.

no no root was the issue(no root was used during any battle), the issue is pets taking alot of agro from player tanks, thank you.
