Parsing Programs

EQWatcher was good for EQ live, but it doesn't seem to work for SoD. I think this is because the log files are named differently for SoD. I haven't found another parser yet :(

yalp works

http://www.yalp.org/

A parser written in XML could be placed into your UI for a heads up display of your DPS... (I think =P ) Im sure there is one out there someplace if you looked hard enough... if there isnt and you write one Im sure there would be a rather large demand for it.

Wow. Just wow. I downloaded Yalp and it's alot better than EQWatcher (well, maybe). I haven't looked into it much but I like that you can parse old log files. A thing with EQWatcher was that you could set up triggers during active parseing and have sounds go off. Does Yalp have this?

I thought we would get bannificated if we used a parser. If it's allowed to do something like watch dps (which is the only reason I would like one), then please let me know. How can you watch your dps with a parser? I've never used one before and don't know anything about them.

EDIT: I just looked at the yalp page and saw how it presents your dps. Is there a parser we can use on SoD that shows current/highest dps in the ui, or would that involve tweaking the client?

Parsing programs aren't againts the rules.

The Rules said:
7. Do not use third-party tools or clever manipulations of the client to in any way acquire knowledge you should not be privy to such as stats of items, locations or loot lists of mobs, or similar. Using Log Parsers, telling others of quests, drops or suchlike information you have aquired in a legit way (for example by killing the mob in question) is perfectly fine, as is making a spoiler site if you should feel like doing this.

As for the UI question, I'm not sure. Every time I've tried to tweak a UI I get loading errors, so I've just been running with what I can find.

Always used EQCompanion to parse on Live and used here quite well before the "summer holidays"

Doh. I thought I remembered the rules stating the exact opposite. I have read them, I swear. Thanks for setting me straight.

Not a problem. . .I thought they were a no no at first, but then I went back and reread the rules (something in another post got me wanting to read them again), and found they are legal. As I stated before, I used EQWatcher on live so I could look away from my screen but still know if someone sent me a tell. Doesn't seem to work for SoD though, and I'd like to have that again.

Yeah, parsers are legal. Third party programs that give you an advantage compared to other players are not.
