Opening up Test server for patches.

Was online today before and after the aggro changes patch that made mobs unable to attack players. It seems to me developers could use help testing things out.

My suggestion is that test server be made available to players willing to help test patches before live release. Allow a limited version of auto level with a template gear list for individual classes. A MOTD could be made on the test server asking players to test what the dev's want to be tested out.

This would be a voluntary option for players, and opening up the test server only when the developers want would keep focus on the main server.
 
You drastically overestimate how many people the test servers can actually support... they are run from our homes on every day boxes.
 
yes, but again, in most cases it wouldnt do what you are thinking it would with an extremely low player cap and bandwidth on a subscriber line. Sure it would have sussed out today's issue, but things like extenuating circumstance enhanced control crashes would have never been discovered. A lot were found in development, and more in testing, but until its made live and every feasible little thing is done that can affect it, you cant test for everything.

For the amount of times it would actually benefit, it's just an unnecessary amount of work for little to no return.
 
No its only for our development and testing purposes. The only way a test server would even work in this manner (though we don't really have enough of a population to support that) is to run them off the servers people are helping to support with donations, however, we feel it's unfair to use precious bandwidth and processing power for something of this nature. Because of that it will remain just as Dev-Cyzaine stated.
 
In addition to all the other great points already made, it would also be a lot of overhead and require a lot more resources to keep the test server up and running. It usually only has a few zones running; those that are being tested.
