Open Request for Books

Hello everyone,

One of my current projects has me adding a library to the game. While figuring out what sort of books to put in it as flavour (has a few that will be very important, but whats a library with 3 books?) I realized that we are sorely lacking when it comes to books that arent specifically related to a quest.

So we have decided to take OPEN submissions to my new library. Meaning that if you enjoy writing and want to make a bit of a mark on the game you now have your chance. We are looking for short stories of all kiinds as long as they are written as if you were actually living the game (roleplay on). They can be about your own character, fictional characters, journals or even academic commentaries on the lore of the world... the choice is completely up to you.

Each submission will be credited to its individual author in game and out. We are also currently offering fame depending on the length and quality of the submission. Quality is a MUST. We are not adding in books just to spam up the game, we are looking to add to the immersive feel and allow people to read about the lore in other ways then checking the forums and wiki.

You can send submissions to [email protected] or PM them to me on the boards. If the submission is deemed appropriate it will be added in game with credit going to you and you will get your fame.

If you have any questions please post them in this thread. I am hoping that if this catches on a bit it will make the lore of the game more accessible and make it just that much more immersive.

You should probably include a bit about the average length expected, woldo.

What are you looking for? Books about anything related to SoD lore-wise? History of a guild/person, the travellers guide to newport night-life, confessions of a star dust eater?

As long as it is more than a page or so it qualifies.

If you want to write a 10 book epic about the adventures of Herbib and Zelera during the first Kaezulian war... awesome.

If you want to write a short story or journal about a trip into the First Ruins and what currently resides there and it ends up being a little over a page... also awesome.

Purposfully leaving the rubric vague to leave the author room to be creative. I will add though if you have an idea it might be a good idea to run it past me before writing a 10 book epic.

All these would be good as long as made into a roleplaying perspective. I would rather you dont submit openly self trumpeting stuff though. IE- Ruin and the Conquering of Taeshlin or Zhak and the Pillaging of the First Ruins.

If one was to write a story on the defending of Goblinskull Mountains from the Kaezulian attackers, how accurate would the dates of said story have to be? Would an estimate of the time of the battle suffice?

Also, is there a deadline for the submission of the stories?

You know, I really wasn't that into Dalaya's lore until I started doing the main quest fairly recently. I'm pretty excited about it now, though =P One submission in, I'll probably do a couple more over the next week or so if I'm not too busy getting myself and my group killed in-game.

Thanks, Woldo, this is an awesome idea.

One last caveat =)

Please do not re-write any lore regarding the game. Using it in in your book is fine but any book that is directly opposite to the lore will be rejected.

What about a book that is contrary to established lore intentionally? I assume that Council, Blackscale, and Silver Crown authored texts would differ greatly in their perspective on things.

Prepare for manuscripts. I literally do nothing for vast hours of the day at work. Time fillers ftw

No limit as of yet.

If we do decide to end open submissions you will be informed a good deal in advance.

This specific library will be out in a week or so, but if this really catches on I dont see why we cant extend them elsewhere.
