So, I'm writing some stories based in the world of Winter's Roar, much as I did in EQ. I have to say that I like this world a great deal better; it just has a more real feel to it. But I've got some questions on the lore, as I've played only for a month and a half, or so.
First off, the Silver Crown. I like 'em! Cool armor, and they've a very strong presence in many places. But I can't figure out if they're mercenaries or some kind of public service. At first, I was thinking mercenaries, but the other day I head to Freeport to check if there were any conversative SC npc's there and found a mess of 'em in the tunnels. I like the guides, although I wish the captains and sergeants (or whatever ranks) would say somethin' to me. Faction not high enough, perhaps? In Freeport, at least, they seem to be kind of a small army, or something.
Secondly, on trade between Halas and Newport (and the rest of the world, I suppose). From the famed supply crate quest, it seems that caravans, either guarded by or operated by the SC, it's clear that there is trade between the two cities. From the most common travel method (not sure if it's the only) between the two, it seems to imply that there are caravans traveling through the playground area of a gnoll *citadel*! This doesn't strike me as intelligent, and I honestly doubt there'd be much backing for it. Not without getting rid of the gnoll presence entirely, or at least establishing a guard outpost in said playground.
What I did for this was describe a mountain pass that bypasses the need to travel through Blackburrow, but remains near enough for raiding parties and occasional gnoll camps or outposts to continue to be a threat, although much more slight. /shrug. What I'm wondering is if this has been covered before, and if this'll work. I'll write what I feel works best, but I'd like to remain true to the lore of the world.
Tertiary (best word evAr! ^.^), Newport, Oggok and Thurgadin are non-agro to all player races (with the exception of that blasted Guard Emil and his buddy Garble...). Is this simply for convenience of the players, or are they simply very openminded peoples? This is more towards Newport and Oggok, I suppose, because the shadow dwarves are... evil.... How ought I portray racial tensions, or lack thereof?
And number D, I've learned Newport was formed by a large amount of people from Erudin. Did they just leave all the racists? ^.^ And why did those people leave? Too crowded? Were the kobolds getting them down? Did someone lead them, and, if so, who?
Okay, last one for now. What kinda ruling system is there in Newport? Haven't seen any mention of one. Seems the guards are the pretty active. Maybe a military rule? But who's the general? Or is it ruled by some kinda of aristocracy, with the common man and woman stepped on constantly? I know there's at least one rich household in the city, from the pirahna meat quest from the baker gal.
*eagerly awaits responce*
