NP resticted areas

I didn't see anything mentioning "restricted areas", and what was my surprise to see the message "you have entered area, guards will attack you on sight" when I entered the first shop closest to NNP gates...although I'm warmly with all Newport (especially guards with whom the problem is related) except the CLR and PAL who scowl. I also heard being behind the SNP bank corner was equal to being aggroed straight by guards. I suppose this would need some explanation, or patch change log or something.
Why is this implemented ?
I can understand about the bank , but why this so common shop in NNP (with the tailor pattern merchant) ?
Is it the same in all cities (I suppose so in every bank with a counter) ?

And people, be careful now when you travel in cities, might be more dangerous than the wild out there
 
It's only a restricted area at night. Didn't the locked doors clue you in?
 
I got the same error msg around 5-6pm game time in the same shop. The doors were not locked as I entered through one and exited the other.
 
The shop was set to be restricted at day for some weird reason. It's fixed now.

Well, really, try diving across the counter to the vault of a real life bank and see if you get arrested. ;)

Then again, I don't have to go shopping for clothes at the bank teller in real life...

sounds a bit harsh, you may not know it but I'm no rogue so picklocking isn't yet in the range of my abilities. I try not to play dumb every day kkthx.

Yeah, sorry, I already received several complaints where people pick locked doors and then complained because the guards nailed them, so I figured it was just another of these.
 
No problem, glad it was not a change, cause it would have been a revolution to wait for the night to buy patterns in Newport :)
 
I use the keyboard for everything possible, so i usually use "U" to interact with NPC's and such. Being a halfling, U doesnt really work across the counter, so i' jump through and stand next to the banker so that it works. Ya i learned that lesson tonight :)
 
Mental note to all pet classes: KILL your pet while in Newport ... my pet went through a wall in Newport and the guards attacked me instantly. Really sucked.

Restricted areas do not apply to pets.
 
If you press up against the building near the newport bank, you enter the restricted zone, and I got summoned by the bounty hunter and hurt, luckily I have FD.

Well then I have no clue how I got killed standing OUTSIDE the bank in Newport, I crossed the bridge, went through the stone doorway there, stopped, looked right and whack, dead. And no I am not KoS to newport at all.

i was standing outside the bank and i got this when i got NEAR some building. i moved in and out quickly so i didn't get aggro.

Yeah, I've often used this technique in the banks (merchants, too, but especially the bank). When the bank is really crowded, us shorties often have a hard time getting to the banker. If we stand back far enough to see the banker over the edge of the counter, people are often in front of us blocking our way, if we get in front of the other people, we can't see over the counter.
 
You can always hit F9 to cycle through the various cameras. You're bound to find one that allows you to click on the banker.
