Norton Constantly Scanning?

I have a friend who wants to join me on SoD but he says that ever since he got Norton antivirus (booooo-hisssss) that his computer runs really slow, as if Norton is constantly scanning. Is this a possibility, and if so is there a way to make it so that Norton does not do this?

Turn it off while playing. :-D

Norton is a hog and probably in my top 5 things I miss the least after leaving Windows.

If Norton is configured to be paranoid about scanning, it makes things 10 times worse.

yeah norton is a terrible beast, two boxing with it on caused very noticeable lag that instantly disappeared when I turned it off

OK about just turning it off while playing, but what about during just regular performance? Is there way to make it just only scan at certain times in the day or something like that instead of hogging system resources at all times?

I haven't used Norton for a while, but I'm pretty sure you can turn the shield off (but this will also mean it doesn't scan new files that you download). If you're lucky you can simply make Norton ignore the SoD folder.
