Well to be honest i have not played EQ in years. I played a lot of UO, but have always missed eq. I dont want to box or anything like that. What is a good class to play for a starting char? So far I'm thinking Ranger, bard, druid or beast. ohh 1 last thing any guilds here to help new players? I'm not looking for hand outs more or less info.

all of the classes you listed are fine to start as your first character. infact any class is probably fine but I would shy away from Warriors, Paladins and Shadowknights as they require the most work to be relevant/desired but really if you like something play it!

You start in a guild at level 1 at character creation called <Dalaya's Beginners>. This guild is the most populated guild on the server, and most veteran players have alts in it and almost all staff members idle in it. This guilds entire purpose is to provide a place for you to ask silly/new/dumb/any kind of question in. Do not feel dumb for asking even the most basic questions in this guild because that's what its there for!

thank you very much for the info. I've been reading the forums and just 1 more question is there a class guide (like where to put stats and AA in for classes?)

no there is not a hard class guide written for every class. Your starting ability hardly make a difference in the long run, however the two most important stats are really...

Stamina - The more stamina you have the more hitpoints you have.
Charisma - The higher your charisma is the less spells are resisted on this server. Charisma also effects the resist rate on items that proc damaging spells or whatever so even if you are a pure melee class with zero casting ability Charisma will still be important to you and will probably be your hardest stat to raise. If I were to remake my monk all over again I would place all of my points into charisma.

The other stats break down like this..

Strength - How hard you hit with melee attacks. Increasing your strength will increase your Attack score ingame. Also determines how much you can carry without being encumbered.

Dexterity - Affects your hit/miss chance in melee combat.

Agility - Increasing your agility will increase your Armor Class (AC) in game and make you take less damage from melee attacks.

Intelligence - Increases your max mana as an int caster

Wisdom - Increases your max mana as a wis caster

---

generally as you level you will get gear that will cover all of this but the two most useful stats to place starting points in are Charisma if you are a spell caster and Stamina if you are basically anything else.

Though all of this really does not matter in the long run. My monk placed all his points into Agi and Dex starting out which are the two least needed stats for a monk (because you get tons of Dex and Agi from raid gear as a monk) and I turned out just fine with zero problems.

Cinn thank you again for all the help, lets hope EQ is like riding a bike :p. I had a 55 druid way back in the day :p ohh ya any other advice is always welcomed. Going to try a halfling ranger out

If you like Archery, then checking out how Fletching works here is important. By around level 10 or so you should be able to afford making the arrows you need. Being able to make a quiver carrying 1000 arrows really improves your ability to use lots of Archery in groups even at low levels.

To be honest, having some level of familiarity with the game and client and controls is a good thing. Not having played in a while and thus not having a lot of notions of how everything is "supposed to work" is a good thing also. Some people experience culture shock adjusting to the differences between SoD and Live and the rules and policies. You should hopefully find adjusting a lot easier.

Are you running EQW (there's a checkbox on the patcher)? If you are, you won't be able to run fullscreen. Personally, I prefer not to use EQW and just use the client's windowed mode.
