New to SoD! Getting me excited about EQ again!

I'm currently installing EQ and once I do I'll be registering and starting to play.

I was contimplating going back with EQLive but I don't really like the new addons since LDoN. Can someone explain where this really ends? What kind of content from the add-ons have been kept?

Also where is the majority of the people who play from? I'm in Finland and am wondering if I'll always be the only one online. That would be a real pain for when I want to group and lord knows EQ has always been about grouping.

SoD contains content from each expansion up through LDoN, though the content is all entirely different then it's live counterparts.

Server population ranges from 90 or so to 350 or so depending on the time of day - while I don't know where everyone's from, I do know that there's always a goodly number of people on.

the maps and locations do not always match what you might recall from Live.

That Said...

You really have to experience it.
 
The difference is that with SOD you get a free server, with mad good user support <see, actually existant GM's> and a better community.

With eqlive you get constantly added expantions that cost 30 dollars or so, 12 dollars a month subscription, for no gm support at all hardly, and a game that really isnt better in any way.

SoD is where its at, and if you like it, start donating and seeing the benefits. Only reason right now to play eqlive imo is to have a PVP server.

And a whole lot worse in more ways than I care to count. Content, story lines, quests, an immersion are SO much better here, you have to play it to believe it. ;)
 
It seems most of your questions were answered already. So, with that being said, Welcome to SoD Bosidar! :)

Edit: As for grouping on SoD, I'd have to say it is MUCH easier to find a group being that /ooc is server wide. The people on this server seem so much nicer too IMHO

Raherin though, watch out for him! He's a meany when crossed! :p

There's a good number of European players, myself included - you're looking at about, what...Roughly 100 players at GMT primetime, 5-6pm. The numbers gradually increase as the Americans log on and start to play.

The only thing you need to keep in mind when playing SoD is this:

You may be using the EQ client, and the game may seem familliar to EQ - but it is not in any way. Your best off to forget everything you know about EQ except the interface and the way it plays. Because it's all changed! and thats what makes SoD so much better than anything else!
 
unfortunately there arent any mounts in game at the moment (not sure on plans, but I'd say no).

I always thought mounts were overrated anyway. Never really liked them in any game tbh. UO is the only game I ever had a mount in, and even that I wish I hadn't been forced to do (running around just took FOREVER).

yeah the server population is mad good here. Never played live myself so I can't say much about storyline or content in comparison, but the main quest seems very well thought out so far, w/alot of info and history.
 
HAH! I was hoping to be playing today but sadly I have to download all the add-ons up to LDoN. It'll take 6 hrs. Looks like I'll be on tomorrow.

Says the guy that plays a rogue, and a cleric, two of the most untouched (as in, unchanged) classes from EQlive to SoD. :)
 
Well fun now that I have brushed off all the rust.

If you ever see a guy named Lerdar (Half Elf Pally) that's me running around asking questions!
