So,I'm kinda intrigued by SoD,it feels different just reading around the wiki and stuff and I'm gonna give it a shot xD

However,I am also an eq vet which I mained a beastlord for quite sometime and I kinda liked it. Are they doing pretty well?

I also dont plan to box, which I have a feeling might get a bit rough, but not impossible? I'd roll a necro or something, but I'm not into the caster types :p

anyways! Just wanted a few opinions before i start playing!\

Edit: just noticed I spelt player wrong, derp :l

I would say a pet class is good to play if you dont wanna box (and beast is one of the better since they have both pet heals and regular heals) so you can solo stuff those times you cant find a group or just log on for 20 mins to kill a fast few mobs.

If you want to have another toon that you want to level up at the same time, you can create a band and let them share the exp even if you most of the time single box.

Otherwise it is more or less make chars and see what you like to play the most (pro tip that I failed when I started, create a new account for every char you intend to play, so you can use any 2 you want at any time)

oh,cool xD

I'm also considering a bard or enchanter, also. Been favoring utlity over dps as my time in mmo's gets longer :p

Beastlords are a solid utility class, there's nothing really bad about them. One is almost a must have for any raid, but two is starting to push it, so finding a raid spot or a main spot in a guild may end up being tricky.

As far as not boxing goes, you can do it. I always recommend boxing though, take advantage of being able to play two toons - you'll get much further duoing than soloing.

Whatever you decide, just play and have fun. You're not stuck with your beastlord if you don't like it, you can always make something new!

I have been shocked at some of the things beastlords can solo. They are a really powerful class, plus they just got cool new pets, so yay!

I played a druid, with no box, all the way from level 1 to 65 and didn't really have any trouble at all. Nowadays though I find myself boxing 90% of the time I'm on, usually one of my guildies toons. But there are plenty of people I know who either can't box or just don't want to and they seem to get plenty of joy out of the game as well. Just find a class that suits you and the rest falls in to place pretty easily. Hope you enjoy!

made a bard,im at lvl 13 but it seems they cant really solo that well :/

Is my only option a pet class, though? I really thought there would be low level groups

nope. cant exactly kite in cesspits and all the good drums are over my price range..not to mention I kinda hate the idea of kiting

Even if you hate kiting, find a port to Wyvernfang Coast and kite the no-social, non-kos wyverns all the live long day.

Can make lvls 42-50 in a day or 2 easy.

at this level I kited all of the spectres and giants in goblinskull mountains. decent cash and XP, good way to go from 40-54ish.

EDIT:

missed a post somehow. but...

I would suggest making a healer box if you can, you can easily duo lots of things and get XP points for your characters. You will want to have a box later in the game anyway and it will save time later.

To solo level as a bard at a decent speed you pretty much have to kite. Get use to running in circles. Lots of circles.

Unless you get groups...

This aspect of a bard is not much different than live.

Getting groups is not solo leveling is it? That is leveling in a group and is probably not an option most of the time.

Until you get good dmg chants(42ish) kiting can be kind of tedious. I used the AoE songs and killed 5 or 6 mobs at a time, usually things higher level. If you don't die you will level very fast but if you take a hit and get stunned you are probably dead. Once you get 2 chants you can kite just 2 at a time and not have to get so close and it becomes much much better.

liodreth in SBL in the 20s are good exp and drop ears or something you can turn in for exp, Robots/wildlife in heartlands in the low 30s to specters in GSM in upper 30s lower 40s and more wildlife in EPL(they all drop quest stuff you can turn in for more exp also) till 50ish is what i did i think. Look for blessed zones in your level range and go kite things would be my advice.

Once you get innate run AA you can kite inside places like sorcs/DN and pretty much anything that doesn't summon. My weapon skills were pretty much unleveled till I stopped leveling and got 55 groups. If you want to actually melee to kill stuff you should box a healer.

"I regret having access to a druid" said no SoD player anywhere ever.

Having a druid will make life much easier leveling up. You get some good buffs (SoW, levitation, damage shield, HP/AC, Mana regen, wolf form, HP/Stamina regen), a healer, a fairly powerful over-all class, some tracking capabilities, and the cherry on top, you get ports that will be very very very beneficial doing the main quest on subsequent characters.
