New player, almost 65. Need advice

Alxen

Dalayan Beginner
So i have boxed a monk/shaman to 63 and am nearing 65. Up until this point i have only grouped when it happened to come together and didn't seek out other players much.

I have basically focused on leveling entirely, nearly no AA's and my gear is just awful. Some of my slots are just AC no stats at all. I don't know where to begin or what to do once i get 65. The gear pages on sodwiki are difficult to navigate as i couldn't find much of a search function besides by slot, which seemed a partial list.

Where should i start is i guess the question. Sorry it is vague but i really don't know. Should i farm AA's (leveling is really slow as it is) or work on gear. What gear should i focus on. Most of the gear i can find listed is way out of my ability to obtain. Should i just farm PP and buy stuff, and where are good spots for pp.

Plan on focusing on my shaman at 65 don't know if i should dump the box or what is best.

Characters are Liathano and Sanglant.

Any advice is appreciated.

at 65 start doing and joining any and all treasure map groups possible up to Mod maps if they'll take you. You will get excellent gear and experience. Treasure maps are very popular and it's not hard to get into them.

Treasure maps aren't that expensive either and the general server rule is that if you buy the map you get to loot the chest first and get all of the platinum and sellables while everyone who helped clear it gets to roll on the gear.

As zorlon said, Cmal has been completely revamped with amazing gear, if you can get a Cmal 1 group do that (though I am not sure how hard it is).

Really save your money though. Invest in a charm when possible but if you feel you'd like to spend some cash on some cool droppables you can get some great gear that people sell from ikisith zones.

People used to farm Ice Giants and Hill giants and eventually Cyclopes in Cyc Gorge (though all of these have been nerfed quite a bit). I'm not sure if you can do Cycs yet with your characters but basically anything that drops platinum kill that!

Get DN rat groups when you can. You'll get a decent split from these groups along with some okay gear (and a haste item can drop off alchemist).

Just stick with it. Gear will come as will levels.

in game friends >>>>> any money gear exp etc etc

know your shit, be respectful, do favors for people instead of asking people for help/favors, get a rep as a Good Guy and you will get invites and phats

when you cant get groups farm faction for gate necks!!!!!! With an ungeared duo farming liodreth heads (or bandit heads?) for Newport might be your best bet. having a gate neck will put you one zone away from the MoP letting you get to groups more quickly/get to city for plat split more quickly = more rep as a guy who knows how to get it done.

access to skype/ventrilo might be a + as well

Maps pay for themselves through mod map, so you will actually make money on them up to that point. When you aren't doing maps, work on your class starfall and thurgadin quests. That will fill 4 slots and have some focus effects. These will be linked on the first page of the class page on the wiki

For monks, you get a nice summon-able, pulling item with stats. the shaman will get a slow clicky earring that you will want to keep for a while and a clicky swarm pet bp. Extra for the shaman, there is an earring with a clicky poison debuff that falls off rust factory trash called " Poison Coated Earring", which will help for landing his poison dots. You can find one on list sold for @ 1-2k, ( I think ?) It might seem like a lot now, but you will use this into end game on the shaman. Zurkka definitely still uses his earring. I still carry mine.

Think about doing the newport ring quests for both. The final item has a focus effect for the class archetype. I might look into it last though, unless it has stages on the way for the thurg and starfall quests and your rings are really dire. But look it up and decide yourself.

-- Edit -- I don't know if the quest still works after revamp, but there was an item with mad saves for the tier, which assembled from elemental drops from CMal 2. You may want to look into this for your monk. Globe of Elements Combined

What gate neck is the most convenient for MoP access? I'm thinking Amulet of Athica

newport probably. Athica amulet will be nearly impossible to solo grind as a fresh 65.

^^^ but, if you get bored of the pure grind, the Sadri Malath neck is A) fun and epic B) not a grind C) even better with friends. Might be duoable with your characters? Not sure, haven't done in years

Make friends with someone that farms elds=>athica neck just add water

There are some shortcuts to the NP neck though, and occasionally it's handy to be able to visit that part of the world.

Be willing to bot my alts when I am trying to gear them and I will take you to the top :p

But seriously go farm DN, the XP is good considering the plat and you can probably join forces with someone else there and combine XP. Also the pulls are very manageable even for a fresh 65. Also Cmal groups are amazing, zone is really good now, if can make friends with someone who has a ringer tank you can run a train on that zone for some nice XP and gear.

This container combine quest does still work as weaver still drops the box, but the orbs are super rare. I made my cleric after the revamp and did enough cmal that my cleric was (and really still sort of is) a walking display of cmal loot but didn't get all of the orbs in the process.

And no, he's not going to be able to duo the Sadri neck quest as a fresh 65 that isn't raid geared, either. The Miel C mobs to get the second piece (the brain) hit for upwards of 200-250, and then the event fights in Miel B have up to 3 mobs at a time that hit for 200-300 and the second event an even stronger single mob that hits at least that hard and uses high level wizard nukes. He could do it with a group, though.

This is pretty much the way it was. I think I may still have 3 of the 4 orbs, box long deleted though. The only peeps who ever finished it were monks, since the saves were considered key to preventing unexpected zoning.

I kinda agree with this, yet, you really should try and get some decent gear, even if it takes your first hard earned 10-20k, which can get you some really nice gear today, like 32% haste for around 2k.

Why?
So you will get accepted in to more groups, T-maps and perhaps even pugs.

For your monk, try and get your Fire and Magic to 300 on fomelo, then you work on most raids for pulling.

For your Shaman, i guess try and get mana and FT, thats often what people check on your fomelo.

Yeah if you are good at pulling on your monk you can scum into a lot of raids if you make good with the Puggers.
