New patcher on Test

Not sure if anyone else has seen it, but on live test server they are using a new patcher that requires you to log in before getting updates.
Since I'm extremely new here not sure how this will effect things.
I guess we could just use the downloads that the devs supply, but that's going to use up some serious bandwidth.

Thanks for the server, looking forward to playing some more!

Not at all. At least not if you have any CD with expansions up to LDoN.

great. This should cut down a lot on their sales losses as well as stolen bandwidth costs.

I allways wondered how they could be that naive.

when the company that runs lineage2 went after one of the main free L2 servers recently they claimed to have had over $1mil losses from bandwidth alone.

I know theres a lot of gray area with emulated servers and what not but whenever a persons actions results in someone else being sent a bill then I consider that definitely over the line and I would think most others would too.

Bah, I have all the cds but LoY, because at the time I bought the download. Hope I never have to reinstall.

UC, this affects people who have the CDs too ( Kunark/original, Velious, Luclin, PoP) unless you can patch to SoD with just the old CDs and be fine (not needing anything updated on live).

If this patcher is anything like the one they use for EQ2, it'll require an active subscription to update.

am i really looking at a hello kitty with a spikey face and a cube that takes you to hell

p.s. if we only patch to live to get things like models and textures etc. wouldn't a manual file transfer from a currently patched folder work?

I am in Sanyia's position.
I think I am going to do a backup DVD of my SoD directory to feel safer...
