Hi all, I used to play a ranger on EQ but lost interest. I am just wondering, how able is a ranger to solo in this game? It seems like alot of fun, but the only question I have is if I am going to be sitting around looking for a group constantly? Thanks alot!

Well I don't mean to sound rude(if you think I do), but honestly soloing with a Ranger is all about how the player does it. If you honestly cannot snare a mob, throw a dot on it, maybe dd it once in a while, and unload arrows on it while running in an oval type shape...then no I don't suggest you solo.

Grouping is better in my opinion, because it gives you the chance to kill mobs you couldn't have solo. For me I was using leather armour up until level 35-40, when I finally started getting upgrades. If you want some advice where to group for some great xp and some descent gear, give Zlandack a tell in game. I have a few Ranger items in bank, and can easily get you a few pieces for your Wyvernscar armour quests. Anyways, good luck and welcome.

Check around the forums using "search" for any Ranger related post.
WWW.RANGERSHAVEN.BRAVEHOST.COM is a new website in the making relating to Rangers in Winter's Roar. Anyways, good luck. Sorry for typing so much.

lol That's not rude, I would probably be meaner. I leveled most of the way to 57 solo, pretty good at kiting and fear kiting animals. Just gets boring fast, but hate waiting for a group all night. Just kinda curious how easy it is to find a group with the server's smaller player base.

Soloing seems to be easier here than it was on live. Early on I noticed my ranger could do much more damage with a bow than on live.

I agree, I have the most fun in a group, but when I started I was concerned about not finding enough people my level to play with, so I chose a ranger specifically so I would have the option to solo. With the large influx of new players lately, group-oriented classes should start to become a more viable option.

i will tell you though that fear kiting wont work here. there is a problem with the hit box that cant be resolved, so even if a zone has had fear pathing implemented, hitting the mob as it runs away from you is next to impossible.

when i played my ranger here i actually would snare/fear it and stand in one spot pumping arrows into it. better than backing up and running into something that doesnt like you, IMO.
