New Guild Progression

I wanted to give my feedback as a former guild leader who attempted to start a new guild on this server. I'll start by saying we had a blast during the 1-59 leveling phase. It brought back some oldschool memories that I didn't think I would see again. Unfortunately, the level 60 game was a complete let down. Raiding on SOD as a new guild that does not have GM's is incredibly difficult. All of the spawns that should be no concern to high end raiders are camped because of a quest line that requires a piece from all raid mobs. By the time my meager crew of 20+ misfits got to the spawn we find it being duo'd by two high end players one of which is a GM. This left us with zero progression path and after endless treasure hunts (because that is all that is available to us) we disbanded.

I'm not writing this to complain, I only want to give you my feedback as a previous guild leader trying to make something on your server. Hopefully you can do something constructive with it.

Not sure what exactly you mean by needing a GM to progress. The majority of guilds that have succeeded on this server at the very least started without GMs. Our GM and GM trainees have to keep their player characters and GM activities completely separate. If you somehow think that there is an advantage to having a GM in the guild, then I think you should talk to the people who have GMs. In the history of the game, two GMs have done corrupt shit and gotten banned for it. On the other hand, I can count five GMs off the top of my head who got kicked out of their guild because they did not want to deal with having a GM watch over their every move.

As for progression paths, I am not sure what exactly you mean. The vast majority of the lower tiers are currently spawned, and have not been killed in multiple days. See: http://wiki.shardsofdalaya.com/index.php/Raid_Tiers. Of course, losing a race for a specific mob always stings, but did that really relegate you to not having anything up? Competition is part of SoD and EQ, and it is definitely a downside to the game if you do not like competing. Yet that is a conscious game decision, and given the logistics of the EQ client the only other option would be instancing - which is not something we are interested in making widespread. Still, I think there are ample mobs up on almost every tier at all times of the week until about T9/10.

More specifics would be great if you want something constructive to come out of the post. I would very much like hear more of why your guild went under, but hinting at GM corruption and saying that one lost raced stopped progression is not much to go on. Sorry that you had a bad time, though. Good luck with whatever you do!

Oh, going to move this to Suggestions and Requests also. Does not really directly pertain to Quest Discussion. Anyone else in the guild that gave up should speak up too. I would love to hear from people who recently leveled up.

I don't know about this guild, but my wife and I helped run a guild from level 55/57 all the way to tier 9/10. We had some bumps in the road along the way, but I would not consider any of said bumps abnormal for any guild that is seeking to progress. We had people just disappear and needed to recruit replacements. We had people leave to join other guilds and needed to find replacements. We had races to raid zones/mobs - we won some races and lost some races. Yes, we even competed with high tier people who were mostly after PoLore quest pieces. We had nights where there were not many target options, but I would not say this was the norm at all, at least until we hit the congestion of T9/10. Sometimes we adjusted our raid days/times to help avoid night when we knew we'd have more competition. We had loot award disagreements, we had some personality conflicts, etc. In the end, the reason the guild disbanded was because leadership was basically burned out - it wasn't a forced thing because we had no targets or anything, it was because we did not WANT to keep it going any more.

There are like 6 GMs who have logged on in like the last year. I will list them for you. If the corrupt staff member is a GM or a Trainee send e-mail to Karit. If it's a Dev, send an e-mail to me. If it's Karit send an e-mail to Woldaff. If it's Woldaff, send an e-mail to me (he outranks me but I am bigger than he is IRL). In this e-mail, please say what that person did to unfairly inhibit your guild's progress. I am ready to believe whatever you tell me, but I have to be honest I can't imagine most of these people caring enough about raiding that they would actively screw with another guild? Becoming a GM or a Dev generally drops your actual play-time to 0 and that's just a fact... becoming staff partially entails selecting yourself out of target-competition.

Big Boss: Woldaff

GM Admin: Karit

GMs: Nwaij, Twist

GM Trainees: Peas, Radish, Nwaij, Tehbuni, Jhano

Devs: Me (Slaariel)

Dev Trainees: Trixxie, Oscavan (deceased), Olive (presumed alien)

SERVER Staff: Jumbers, Taryth

KLS: KLS

Most likely candidates are KLS (only pretended to quit 5 years ago), myself (responsible for all bad things), Olive (aliens do not share human morals), Woldaff (passing the Bar Exam to defend himself from these charges).

If this post was not actually about GMs and was just in fact against the PoLore quest then know only that we are united and while I also dislike that quest, it is much less of an issue now that the initial rush has passed.

Thank you!!

Naethyn, please take to heart what Woldaff and Slaariel have said because it is pretty much the truth. I am on the Slaariel posted and am one of the exceptions to the dev/gm rule because I still play a decent amount. In fact I am a guild leader myself of one of the plethora of progression guilds in the T9/10 range. I understand your pain of trying to lead a group of people through fun times adventuring in SoD. It is not an easy task. That is partially the reason I joined staff was to help make things fun/easier for the folks that play this game. I played on Live from year one through year 7 or 8. I came to SoD through a friend in 2008 and have been here since. I love SoD because it is what Live should/could have become. It pains me to think that people believe there is staff corruption, because everyone on staff truly cares about this game or trust me, they would quit. Being staff is not glamorous, the only reward is the feeling of helping people or creating something for them to enjoy. There is a lot of work and sacrifice. That is one reason most on staff do not play, their time gets absorbed by either answering petitions and policing the server or by coding; fixing old stuff or creating new. So I implore you to please contact the appropriate person in Slaariel's post with more information so that this can be dealt with effectively. Hopefully this is all just some sort of misunderstanding. I wish you the best in enjoying SoD in the future, quest on.
