.net Framework Refuses to Install

Hey guys,
Seems that the installer knows how much I hate Microsoft software because it comes up with an error if I try to install .net Framework 1.1
I accept the licence agreement and then it gets nearly to the end of the progress bar but comes up with Internet Error 2908. {7D4B5591-4C80-42BB-B0E5F2C0CEE02C1A}
I press OK, and it comes up with the following: Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly `Microsoft.Vsa,Version="7.0.5000.0",PublicKeyToken="b03f5f7f11d50a3a",Culture="neutral",FileVersion="7.10.3052.4"`. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x8002802F.
Great piece of software. You would figure they would be able to write something that works with their own product.

Also...

I was having this problem also... if you cant find out what is goin on go to your run and type msconfig *assuming your using win XP* and then go to start up and click the little box that says hide all Microsoft apps...I found 2 peices of spyware that were preventing my systme from installing it this way...I un checked them found them on my system and deleted...seemed to work fine after that...

I never did get .net installed. Both those fixes on those two websites didn't work. Nothing unordinary in my startup profile.
I've been just downloading the patch files and unzipping manually, but I don't really know when they change files, so it kinda sucks that way.
It would be nice if there was a copy of the patcher that didn't use .net framework. Would help out the Linux guys, as well as help as to not support Microsoft. Sorry if it's been commented on before, but I really do hate that .net crap.
Anyways, thanks guys for the suggestions. Maybe I'll figure it out.
