My second character keeps getting disconnected for some reason.

I log on with both my characters and after about 5 minutes my second character gets disconnected and back to the character select screen. :what: I just don't understand why this is going on. The game was working find before but in the past week or so its been doing this.

Are you seeing a large red paragraph of text regarding your characgter's name and having to change it? Are you trying to run two characters off of the same account? These are two common reasons for that happening. If you answered no to both of these, see the stickied thread at the top of this forum regarding what information you will need to provide in order to get more efficient tech support help. :)

wow embarrassing... these posts are not posted by me... FYI

i'm letting my father use my SN to post on forum b/c he's incapable of remembering his SN and PW for forums. sorry for his lack of information and appreciation for this thread. i'll have him explain the problem in better detail later.

ok, so i hopped onto his comp. 2 things i notice.

1- the main issue, where the 2nd window logs out after 5-10 minutes, why i don't know. it flashes black then boots back to char select. no message displays or PL or anything. just flash flash-char select.

2- and this is really concerning, his clients seem to run in slow motion? everything swings slow, runs slow, everything. computer is more than capable of running it and he has the eqw off SoD.com from like, 3 weeks ago?

i'm gonna troll the boards for him since he's not too keen on how forums and tech support work. but any suggestions for these problems would be stellar.

edit:
did some trolling, seems like it's either GPU or EQPN. I'll have him run 1 client w/o EQPN, see if it goes all matrix slowmo again. then i'll launch the 2nd app. hopefully it works. again, any suggestions are welcome =].

so here's what i tried.
Tried EQ w/o EQPN - no change
Tried w/o EQPN and EQW - no change
Tried w/ EQPN and w/o EQW - no change
Downloaded new GPU driver, tried same steps again.
also tried EQPN and 2 clients, and 2nd client was kicked to char select after 5 minutes.

Try starting both clients, then run task manager. Switch to the Processes tab in task manager. Sort the CPU column on task manager descending. If you have something using more that 2% other that two copies of eqgame.exe try killing whatever process is eating resources.

If this fixes your problem uninstall the offending program or shut it down before starting SoD.

If it turns out your problem is not another piece of software using a lot of resources the most common hardware problem that would cause these symptoms is overheating. A fan attached to a heat sink on your CPU on GPU is probably out.

bah, i apologize for my father's new thread just below this one.

in any case, i'll try using another GPU (luckily i still have my old one), and see if that works for him. Go from his x850 xt to an FX 5500. both 256mb agp's so he shouldn't notice a difference.

hopefully it works, if not. i'll make another post. also i'm going to take off my SN from his browser lol.

A x850 should be way more than enough to run SoD. I have a x300 and don't experience any slow movement at all. I doubt this is a GPU problem, and most likely an issue with your processor.

well then i don't know what to do for him then. i'll check his processes, maybe run system mechanic and clear some crap. lol

i'll do it tonight and post on the results. He runs eq2 fine, which strikes me as a little odd? :psyduck: but i'll keep trying. thx for your help so far =]

so i ran both clients, both eqgames are running 11-17% of the CPU- 194,000k mem usage, and his system idle process is running 60-73% ish w/ 28k mem usage.
other processes are all 0 w/ varied mem usage.

any suggestions? all are welcome and appreciated=]

:psyduck: (Very bizarre!)

It might be a v-sync issue if EQ 2 is running fine. Try opening 'Display Properties' then selecting the 'Settings' tab. Now click the 'Advanced' button. The dialog that is displayed now may have a different layout specified by your graphics card manufacturer, so the remaining instructions may not be exactly correct for your card (but try to find the same options). Select the 'Adapter' tab, then click the 'List All Modes...' button. The 'List All Modes' dialog has a listbox with all of the available video modes. They are listed as a set of three comma separated values: Resolution, Color depth, Refresh rate. Select the mode with whatever resolution you want and the color depth that matches what you are using for SoD, and 60 Hertz. Click the 'OK' button on all of your open dialogs to close them.

If that doesn't fix your problem, you can try opening the case on your computer while it is running to make sure that the CPU and GPU fans are spinning like they should be, but I doubt this is the problem as you would likely see problems running EQ 2 as well.

;) (Good luck!)

I've been assuming that by 'second character' you mean the client running in the background. Is this correct or does this happen to the client you start second regardless of whether it is in the background or not?

it's always his shaman (2nd account) that boots to char select.

All resolution settings are matched and correct. guess my next step is opening up the case and watching the fans. :tinfoil:

nah, it's not name violation b/c his alts won't work.
turns out he 'resolved it' by making another healbot account.

So it was some account issue. that just leaves the issue of EQ running in slow motion. but he's not complaining so i'm not bothering to fix that.

Thanks to all who gave their input! much appreciated.

The slow motion is a bug caused by the eqplaynice injector, I am not sure the fix for it either, I just turn mine off and play from two different computers when i box now.
