MQ - COI - Greater Wisp Essence

Issue #1. Greater Wisp Essence is a time sink because wisps are a relatively rare spawn, and the essence is a relatively rare drop. This can become an extremely long and tedious "camp" because of the spawn rate of wisps and the randomness of the drop (it was for me and several others). The reason it is tedious is because it is extremely boring slaughtering green mobs waiting for the 1 or 2 wisps that will spawn each hour.

Issue #2. While level 65s are searching this item out, lower levels are also searching this item out while leveling and progressing in the game which can cause problems for others to advance (65s slaughtering the zone to get wisps to spawn, causing lower levels troubles.) This was the case while I was hunting for mine because there was also a 65 druid and 65 necro doing the same thing at the same time as me, causing problems for a lower level group to get mobs to kill.

Suggestion: Create an alternative way for higher levels to gain the Greater Wisp Essence by allowing for a turn-in quest in the zone requiring items to be gathered from outside Heartlands. This could be as simple as 4 items that already drop in zones such as Rust or Mielc, etc.

Others' input below.

Thanks.

Thar be many o' time when yon zone is quite empty. Bring ye a tracker like me, 50 platinum might tempt me.

spells like sense elemental or summoned ect can point you in the direction of one too. thats what i used on my mage to find em but it took 65 kills to get one (not egaggerating)

being able to track doesn't solve this as a druid was having the same problem..

the issues are the wisps being a long spawn + rare drop coupled with the fact that anyone playing the game that chooses COI faction wants and needs this drop (causes a bit of a bottleneck/time sink).

Quite honestly, it really isn't that big of a deal, and I'm already done with it and could care less at this point. The fact that anyone I've ever talked to about it always says "yeah that part sucks" or "oh yeah i heard that part really sucks, i got lucky and got mine on my 3rd kill" is the problem. Almost everyone realizes it's a shitty time sink. I just feel that the aim of this server has been to end a lot of those types of things and open the game up for everyone instead of bogging whoever doesn't get lucky on a quest drop down.

Judging by the sheer number of people who have completed the quest I really don't see an issue. Yeah it takes a very long time for that one drop or you can get lucky. It took me like 7 hours to get mine on one toon and like 2 on the other. It took my wife maybe 2 1/2 hours for hers. It is a pain in the rump but I don't really believe it needs to be changed.

Never fear there are plenty of quests where you will experience a piece not dropping. Like for my clerics lifeward. It took me litterly 80 hours for one drop.

Blame the RNG, Luas sure does.
On a serious note its basically luck. I was leveling couple alts in heartlands for my wife to play an runing around i killed 8 whisps and got 2 stones.

Even if you implement a turn in for high level players it would still be easier to get the wisp stone rather than get groups for the 4 different zones or whatever and then hope to get the drops. Either way though while it may take a lot of time I really do not think that it is game breaking or even needs to be changed and heartlands is such a big zone that any lower levels xping there shouldnt have much trouble getting mobs.

Tbh, I probably could be in the top ten number of folks who have done this quest multiple times. The wisps suck, but so does mining the ore for the SC. It's all RNG for what you get.
Yes a tracker is useful.
Yes, having a higher level kill junk to help spawn them is useful.
But all in all: this is not a bad quest and in my opinion, it really doesn't need any changes.

The real problem i ever see is that most everyone attempts to solo it, instead of groups doing it together for multiple parts. (SC needs the animals, CoI needs the wisps/machines: good combo to have in a group and mass kill everything for exp). Yes, some folks do group here. But 80% of the times it's robots only.

With the mass influx of newer folks, it seems like there will be quite a few more doing this sooner or later. The problem really arises when folks do it later (ie: waits until everything is low green to them, because its easier to solo for the MQ experience later) instead of trying to get groups up to do it like it was intended.

I just recently did this quest yet again with my druid, and didn't have any trouble soloing the wisps (41 level druid when I did this). Can't really beat charming one of the grizzles and letting it ripe everything apart :)

Track is a huge help Ill give you that. Invis is also very helpful to scout around for the wisps and then find a good pull spot for when you aggro so you won't get adds.

Definitely agree go after them in a group and it does wonders for how fast you can get this part done. Having just done Mass Grave Robbing, you have yet to hit RNG frustration until you find yourself avergeing 1 page per 4-5 clears of ghosts with limited numbers and a 40ish minute respawn timer.

The trick is actually to train literally every mob in the zone to the Blackscale camp rather than waste your time killing greens. During repop time kill goblins for beads, because you're gonna need to do that for an hour or two anyway.

Maybe I am one of those guys that just "gets lucky", but never had problems getting mine. From onset of quest to completion was maybe 20 minutes. Even when I was doing SC on an alt, I kept running into wisps (seemed to always be the small area just north of SC camp to the ent to goblin cave) Not trying to rub it in or anything. I, like zorlon, have heard from many other folks that this drop can be a beeyotch of a time-sink. Perhaps it's one of those deals where, if it's not spawning, you have to go kill other things (roaming goblins, grizzlies, panthers, lowbie robots) so more will spawn. Or like Melestav says, train the hell out of them, and wait for the repops.
