MOTD?

Lately on nearly all my characters, weather they be botted or my own, the guild Message of the Day does not show up. I've tried nearly everything, going into my options and clicking on all my buttons, but nothing works. Does anyone know what this is?

It's intentional.

Type /get to see it.

Why? I use the MOTD to announce important events to the rest of my guild, and so do my officers. This seems pretty worthless.

Was there a reason it was taken out?

Yes. It's not completely taken out, it just doesn't show every time you zone.

People will never get in the habit of finding out what the MOTD is now. Having it show up every time you zone is a reminder to people to see what event is happening soon, important information, etc.

I know some people don't read the MOTD to begin with, but with this change, there's no way they're going to make any effort to type in /get to read it.

Is there any way you can change this back? I've always thought the MOTD was really important.

Was this implemented between yesterday evening and today? Because the MOTD kept showing up for me at midnight (EST) last night and I never ever entered /get... Maybe there's another setting somewhere that is affecting that?

You should get it as soon as it is changed. Just not if you're zoning at that time. So, maybe at times where raids etc. may start, just type /get after zoning.

It just seems to me, wholly unecessary. Why remove something that is in place and working perfectly? On live, nothing was told to us in guild chat, every event/raid, etc was told to us through the message of the day.

If someone could explain to me the reasoning behind this, I'd much appreciate it, because otherwise it's worthless. I shouldn't have to "get" a system message. This is effectively destroying an integral part of the way my guild is run. Please put it back.

I don't know the reasoning behind the change, but our guild MOTDs are funny/silly enough that I know that I missed something if I didn't read it and that reminds me to type /get every once in a while :psyduck:

You might be alone in this. We get the cult message of the day all the time, but never the guild message of the day, which is the one that actually matters. I think if this is going to stick or something, give us a /cmd to turn the MOTD on or off every time you zone, per person.

I think it is very reasonable to have it show when you log in and when it is changed.
both the MOTD and the guild motd.

I miss not having the MOTD show every time I zone, and agree that it was primarily used (at least for us) to announce important events etc. I hope people get into the habbit of typing /getmotd. :(

Ruin is in the same boat about the MOTD being important enough to warrant it showing every zone. The /cmd automotd off command sounds reasonable.

I endorse this product and/or service :). People get busy, forget to check it etc. Seems fairly unecessary that it was taken out of showing, and /get ing it every time you zone would be a far greater pain in the ass than like 2 lines of text every time automatically.

No one will do this.  What if it's changed and you're zoning, and no one tells you?  Like Aisling said, it's very unnecessary to have this taken out.

It's just another thing you have to think about or remember to think about.  Why should I have to type /get to view my message of the day when on every other server EQ server, Live or Otherwise, it will show up automatically?

I agree with this. For someone in dalaya's beginners it gets annoying seeing a paragraph every time you zone, but this is direly important to get information to all guildees quickly without repeating oneself constantly when someone finishes zoning or just logs on

I was unaware that this change was put in, but like everyone else in this thread, I firmly support reverting to the previous guild MOTD ways.

Any official word on why was it was actually removed?
