Monster Summoning idea

I'm not sure what this spell is originally intended to do, though I'd assume its a permapet like the other pets w/some different ability or something. I'm also not sure of what problems there are in implementation, but thinking about it I came up w/an idea. Perhaps monster summoning could be changed to a host of the elements like effect where it summons a mob (of a common type in the zone albeit w/the same strength as per the spell) for a set duration (in addition to regular pet, like HoE). Maybe like a minute or until the end of the fight or something. Just throwin an idea out there as this might be easier to implement than whatever its planned to, or maybe even a quickfix so to speak.
 
I'd like more of a crap-shoot kinda effect.
Summons a monster within certian levels of the summoner, which may or may not help you against what you are fighting. When the mob you are fighting dies, a chance it would turn on you/your group would be cool.
 
With what you described I believe it would stay at its current level of usefulness. i.e. none. Any mob serious enough to actually bother to use it against would leave a group incredibly weak, and the monster summon would then turn around and kick said group's ass.
 
I wonder, could summon monster be made to summon a mob that's race is equal to whatever race you have targeted? Make it ignore casts at players, boats, et cetera.
 
It could start as an air elemental and proc the enchanter AA shapeshift in combat! (wouldnt be very cool versus wyrms or dragons tho xD)
