Maps

I was wondering if anyone knew of any maps - Not zone connections kinda maps, but literal overhead maps. more difficult to find my way to Fearstone based on a 4 year lapse between the time i went there last and now

Could try www.eqatlas.com ... just ignore most (if not all) of the location markers on the maps, as they are not accurate for SoD
Think that's about the best you'll get, if this is what you're looking for.

That'll work - getting adjusted to the names is surprisingly difficult for me though after 3 years of live ;p Thanks

I think that's just game files for the maps - They're all txt files - Is there some secret way to use them as real maps?

Well ... www.mapfiend.net has found a way to convert the files into pictures, using the text.
Haven't been able to find any programs/websites out there to do standalone conversions though.

Are u kidding? try unpacking the maps in your Map's folder! And then press 'backspace' ingame to use them!

I thought i had done that when i started up the game, but the backspace gives me wierd info sometimes - I'll try and do it again, may be one of those "patch all" bugs that occurred - i know i deleted the maps folder i originally had per the directions from the startup guide - But i'll redo this and see what the backspace maps show me. Thanks!

First of all, make sure you delete all the maps in your maps folder. Second, don't extract the maps to the map folder, but to the main EQ folder. When you extract, it creates a Maps folder, so if you extract to Maps, you get a second Maps folder within it, and the maps won't be read by the game.

Will do. I originally did this, but i pulled the classic mistake of patching to live (as i couldnt enter the dream because i hadn't patched to LDoN, Didn't have nightmare_b map), so patched to LDoN and when i re-patched all i forgot to do the new mapset i guess.
