Make pet follow behind me please.?

besides the sound, Wizard pets get in that way? their like 1/4 the size of a mage bsl or necro pet

It's most at issue when you are shrunk or a gnome, because the familiars cannot be made smaller. Also if you try and click through it you just keep targeting your pet even if you CAN see the mobs through it, and when fighting multiple mobs with the same name, /target (name) doesn't guarantee the results you want.

Pets are not kos to mobs, you got too close.

Also, having played mage and necro pretty much both to 65, the SE thing is generally a minor annoyance but there are some zones where you are almost always facing either east or south where it becomes an incredible pain in the ass. For example, western plaguelands if you're killing desert mobs.

Yes, yes, omg yes. #1 reason for frustration in the plaguelands. That and darkwoods. Tacotown always wanting to park his ass in my favorite field of view.

Do most of you folks use first person camera or something? I've done my share of time with pets on SoD and its only really irritating if I get in close quarters and just so happen to be facing that way during a certain part of the lunar cycle in one particular spot... I digress. But hey, I use 3rd person and consider it the only way to really play... pets rarely give me a bit of trouble.

Never got used to 3rd person on Eq. On Wow, I never use 1st, only 3rd. Here only 1st. Just seems to me to flow better with the engine as a whole.

So were are all the GM's?
Usually they are really fast responding to the threads..
We had some commenting on the first page but as to the possability of this change they are staying freakishly quiet, it seems that alot of people do feel the same way I do..

so ill just see if a little GM dance brings em' out of hiding

Ok just some quick examples of when it gets annoying... I run Yaemz through North Newport to South Newport. As I go into the tunnel which heads SW to zone out, my pet gets right in front of me and I run into it. This stops me. Then my pet moves forward and I run ahead again, running into my pet once more. I wait a second for him to move then run ahead, hitting him a 3rd time usually before finally getting to the zone line. It is very annoying, even at level 65 with run 3 and usually bih'li also. A more important example is when fighting in tight areas like halls and caves sometimes the pet walls a mob and it is impossible to back him away far enough to cast on the mob unless I go all the way back to a turn somewhere. Note here that not everyone has the pet recall AA yet. just having him follow me would be a wonderful improvement.

as a player that bots every class in the game I hate that the stupid pets always stand to SE or whichever direction it is. for the bots that have /pet hold I end up using that with a hotkey until my eyes want to bleed from the spam and any pet class i use that doesnt have pethold i dont use the pet becuse it piss's me off to much.
Doesnt stop you from playing the game but it is annoying.

I'll just add that pets will open doors if they are in the way of the pet on it's way to the SE of you. This is potentially bad for obvious reasons

EDIT: post removed... was asking for clarification of a previous post, the post was changed.. Clarification done. :)

4.) youre overreacting to something you admit you know nothing about.

Pets open doors. Opening doors can give you los aggro on mobs behind doors. Running past a closed door with a pet can potentially kill you, espcially since they will clip into walls in hallways and auto-open everything you run past. (lol that hallway iin prison)

pets open doors.. that is pretty dumb.

It's a test of reading comprehension:
I'll just add that pets will open doors if they (the door) are in the way of the pet on it's (the pet's) way to the SE (south east) of you. This (pets opening doors) is potentially bad for obvious reasons

If a door is situated on the line made by the path of the pet as it moves to the position to the south east of the summoner of the pet, then the door will open.
At least this holds true for necro pets. Flappies and frogs may not.

Basically this is a matter of writing a function that determines where "behind" is which is a bigger effort than just picking an arbitrary direction.

I'm not opposed to it, but I really have other things I'd rather spend my time on right now.

Would a command that lets you set the direction of it work? It would eliminate partially the problem with it standing in your face (and potentially the door one, though it would be an incredible pain in the ass in certain zones where it would be the biggest problem due to frequent turning, so notsomuch there). Like /cm petset N?

Not sure how much coding would be involved as I'm not really familiar with the scripting you guys use, but I'd think it would be alot less than having it figure out where it should be.

On live for the last few years the pets have behaved exactly as if they were on /follow
That is they were always running after you and stopping once they got within a certain distance.

If you would be running backwards they would be in your view.

Basically right now pets are chasing a point in the SE corner of your character. If you just changed this point to be at the centre of the character and increased the pets distance from the point ( so that they stop further away ) by just a little I think it would solve my problems with them perfectly.

It dosent have to be that the pets always no matter what are trying to get behind you. But when moving forwards they would always be behind you.

EDIT: Is it possible to just make a command that makes pets use the regular /follow script that players use to follow each other? This wouldent hopefully be that much work and be the perfect fix for me.

Yes, thanks, I know how pets worked on live. Read my post.

The regular "follow" script would make the pet unreliable in terms of direction.

Yes it is very very annoying on fights were I get to use "nerfed" if I don't kill him afterward he's always in my way .. on raids mostly cuz I sometimes I have to target people in a hurry. And I type slow.

Most you of you have the option to control you pet make it guard and park him somewhere.. but Cleric pets you don't get that option or i would so use it all the time.

Also if there a way to make you pet kills count for you?
(Kinda off topic, I just like to send mine into a bunch of green orcs and let them charge and see who wins .. Vah camp comes to mind hehe)
