Make 'em read the rules

Its nice to see WR growing, but I'm concerned about the quality of the players that seem to be pouring in now. A lot of these people seem to be completely bypassing the rules section.

I dealt with one such individual yesterday, a real gem of a character of fifteen levels who harrassed by group for a short time because he believed me to be the reason his clever name was nerfed.
"u guys are gay. 'messing my name up''u kno wut u need to get off the comp and get a f' 'go f ure self biotch'

My suggestion is based off of the registration process of Elfwood. You must read the rules before sending in your application to register and you are given a little questionaire that tests your knowledge on said rules. I think WR could benefit from having something like that.

I dunno about the questionaire... But I think rules should be more stricktly obeyed... People seem to break them a lot and not at all hours there are Gm's on... Something should be done.

I uh, don't exactly think a questionnaire would be a good idea.

Who's going to read hundreds of answers per day?

It wouldn't be something that someone would have to read. more like an automated thing where the answers are in button form and you click the answer. You'd have to score a certain amount before an account would be accepted or something like that.

I think a questionaire would be a little extreme.

If someone was behaving so, then I would have simply typed /log on. Subsequently followed by /petition. If petition was not responded to, then i would have looked to try to contact a GM in the further. This is not to say that you should go crying to the GM every time someone gets rude - but if someone is going off the deep end - then look to do something about it.

The GM's have a lot to do (besides actually enjoying the game) and I am sure they are going to have more to do as the game continues to expand. We should try to assist them when at all possible.

I guess I'm just getting my panties in a bunch over nothing. That bad apples will eventually get tossed out one way or another.

Hopefully, and Hopefully I am not one of them :D

its funny i see so many people complaining about no one knows the rules, or why does everyone ask the same damn questions all the time, etc.

and guess what the rules don't answer half of the questions everyone asks anyway, basically they say you can't be an arsehole and no ghey names, ooh and be a normal human being and use some morals when dealthing with others. and what the GM's will ban you for.

I would rather see a nice fat .doc file that shows you all the other things about the game that everyone always asks about like: specialize points, /cmd commands, all the how-do I?, When do I?, and where do I? questions.

Document file or hell even just a little Section on the web page.

Edit: before someone says use the wiki. I say make the wiki navigatable. or easier to navigate.

I am not sure that you fully grasped what was being targeted. Rules for anything are rarely, if ever, all encompassing and cover everything. Common Sense is generally trusted to be a good guide.

One of the things that I find annoying is people who get bent out of shape and spam /ooc or start a thread in the forums asking what is wrong with their name when in most cases its pretty obvious. And the above example of someone harrassing other players because he/she had to change their name is sad.

And yes the wiki is semi-difficult to navigate the first few times and since there is no standardization, its hard to organize but its decent. But another useful tool that seems to often be ignored is the search function in the forums. So many questions (specially in tech forum) have been answered before but no one bothered to search. I am not bothered if a new topic is started, but try to show some effort to try to find the answer on your own (there have been times that the same issue was answered 2 or 3 times in as many different threads on the same day).

In short, I don't mind seeing questions. But before asking it, make sure it wasn't already asked/answered by using the nifty little tool known as search. If you can't find it because the right keywords weren't used, no big deal - but at least try.
