Mage patch changes?

is this thread for real? please don't nerf them because of one guy who has long proven he cannot be pleased. i assure you the majority of people like the new rods.

I think people need to read Bridger's posts properly.

When he says "I am struggling to understand" he means, "I have moderate learning difficulties and I am a bit slow so please would someone explain this to me in very very very simple terms"

You seem to think that the phrase "I am struggling to understand" means "I am a genius, you are all morons and what you are proposing makes no sense so you are even greater idiots than I originally thought.". That is most definitely not what he intends.

In that light I will explain to Bridger my understanding of what the potential benefits to casters of attuning rods are. Certain fights require pulse DPS, generally towards the end with the start being fairly gentle. I do not faff around with bags but in preparation I put rod in main inventory slot before fight gets hectic. Just before hectic bit I insta click rod and nuke the shit off mob. If that is incorrect please someone explain the true facts.

Please for the future read Bridger's post properly and please Bridger, for the future, make your requests for enlightenment a little clearer as they do sound like moaning at times.

I think the issue here is that nobody honestly believes that he doesn't know what the benefit of spell haste is. He has played a caster dps enough for a supreme and 40+ tomes. He wears CSI.

I think he made that statement because he feels there is an injustice in the fact that this item might benefit other classes more than his own, and because of this he implies it is entirely useless to him which is completely untrue. Yes it is better on a number of other classes, but it is still very useful for a mage. Should non pet classes complain about imbalance whenever an item with a pet benefit is found?

Everything isn't going to benefit everyone equally, and when you cry about that usually people will just call you dumb, but in this case you might have just ruined a very cool item.

Just some extra info from mages perspective.

While the buff is up you do cast spells in half the time BUT the cast bar continues like normal and will not allow you to start another cast untill it finishes. So if a spell normally takes (from first clicking the gem to the time it lands on the mob) 4 seconds you will receive the message "mob has been hit with #### points of damage" after 2 seconds but your gems are greyed out for the full 4 seconds. Duck/sitting after the spell lands does not help this. There IS a difference after the cast bar ends in that your gems are not stuck greyed out for the additional couple seconds you normally have, so there is a benefit it's just minimal untill you cast that third spell and have it land before the buff goes off (this is a Mage only experience, I cannot speak for other casters and how it effects their abilities to cast since I have not tested it on them).

So as much as I don't always agree with Bridger and find him an annoyance on the forums, unless your paying attention you may not see any difference and if your Euro there could be an additional lag issue which would make it even less noticeable (so him not seeing a benefit could be sincere)

I personally love the way the rods have been changed and do not see a need to change them at all, they are incredibly useful to everyone at almsot all tiers.

Anyway that's my stance/experience with these so far.

I assure you he needs it explaining. I had a 15 minute discussion with him today about it and I had to make the point quite forcibly that in certain fights an extra nuke for each of the wizzies is the difference between wipe and win.

You are right that he thinks only in terms of the effect on his rains but not particularly in a selfish way. As i said he needs very slow and careful explanations that even for a mage there is benefit. Again if he is going to faff about with his bags in the middle of a raid fight rather than have it prepared for insta cast, then that is just him being him.

As I said he genuinely does need it explaining no troll. All credit to Thade for explaining it so precisely.

Simplest terms:
Some fights require a quick burn to finish it, before the mob does something bad (heals to full, explodes for massive AE, etc.). So, when raid leader says it is a burn at X% fight:

1) Have this rod ready in an inventory slot.
2) when burn is called, use the rod.
3) nuke quicker
4) collect phats.
