Mage bane spells

Bane spells are supposed to be situational, and should only affect summoned mobs. However, I haven't seen these spells being effective in tier 8+ zones, at least for mages.

I have been trying this line of spells on a lot of different targets, which look like elementals (Thaz : LT water, fire, UT water, fire, air and ToT). I'm not sure about Thaz, but I'm 100% sure these spells didn't land on elementals in ToT.
I was not getting a "you can only cast on elementals". The spell could be casted, but no damage was done upon landing.

- Are these spells supposed to not land on ToT/Thaz elementals or is it an oversignt ?

Are all elemental mobs summoned mobs ? Can we say an ancient fire spirit is an elemental ? Or is it just sharing the same grafic as an elemental but his nature is different ?

Basically, for me right now, everytime I see an elemental mob, mage should be able to land a bane spell on it. Is it wrong ?

I believe this is the intention. I've noticed similar issues with many supposedly undead mobs and Undead Bane spells as well.

If you could compile a list of mobs you've tried this on that should be elementals, but are not, please name them in some sort of list. It'll make it easier for the staff to determine what the problem is that way (improper tag, possible coding bug, etc). Exact names if possible. Location is not needed.

Ok, thank you for the quick reply.

I'll try to make a list of "bugged" mobs in the next days.

You guys are aware that almost every single creature in the planes is an Elemental, right?

But yeah, not exactly low level.

This quote from Wiz from an old thread seems to indicate that something is wrong if no damage is happening.

Will verify with admins expected behavior before I give a definitive answer, but IF they are supposed to be hit by Bane Elemental Damage Spells, than it is 100% a code bug, that can be easily changed.

Which I guess means making a list of 'bugged' mobs is an effort in futility, so don't bother heh.

As I said, I didn't get the message "the spell only works on elemental" when I was casting it on these mobs. The spell could land, but I woud get no message at all, nor any damage report.

So I'd say it's a bug.

Mage banes working as intended would prolly help them a lot , wtb ! From the lore point of view , I would accept you couldn't land an elemental nuke on a boss or something (higher elemental spirits that are not summoned like the trashes around them). But on most planar trashes I believe they should be flagged. I'm not sure either what Wiz intended them to be iregarding Mage nukes though.

Well uhm if I may derail this a little, I know vampires (Cata,Elds) are supposedly undead and share this problem : you cast the spell, it apparently lands, but no damage. Sounds like the same problem for undead mobs.

On top of this, some mobs are straight not flagged as undead while looking like them.
-Warpstone vampires (but it's very argueable that they would be undead)
-Emberflow ghosts (might be spirit remnants idk)
-Emberflow skeletons (although they might be necros in lich form ? but they would have mana to drain eh)
-Emberflow weird-looking torrent creatures (not sure how to describe them without any spoil) but they seem quite boney
-Plane of Frost eidolons

Think that's all.

Unintended behavior it is for Planar mobs! This will be fixed for next patch.

Vampires are a bit... different.. and without going into too much detai, won't be changing.

The Emberflow mobs in question are likely not tagged as undead, and not related to a code problem. These will be looked at, and if it was an error, will be fixed.

Speaking of Planer mobs...

Is thier a list of what Zones are considered Planer?

Obviously zones with ... Plane of X.. or Plane of Y

But what about zones like Carvens of the Deep One? and other zones that follow that nameing convention. The Player base calls it Plane of Water... but what is it really?

Towers of Agony are another good example

Any zones where the Gods dwell are considered Planar. This is the bulk of the currently implemented raid zones, much easier to say what isn't...

Dragonhorn Keep
Stormseye
Sepulcher
Caverns of Darkness
Prison
Dreadfang Spire
Misery
Rust

Are the lot of them. Now not everything in the Planes are actually elementals, but most of them are. When in their home planes, or if they are strong enough, they can pretty much take on whatever form they want.
