The finished "holy book" was hand picked and put together by people at the time that merely wanted to use it as a tool to influence the masses.

No no no. GOD chose which scriptures would appear in the new testament. Can't you read?

That's what my girlfriend says, anyway.

Your girlfriend is correct.

Men didn't just say 'oh, I'm going to write a book and call it Scripture'.

Most of the OT is prophecy anyways, and 80% of it has been fulfilled.

The last 20% will come within the next 50 years.

The other books are history/law books, but still used as Holy Scripture.

If you are attempting to refer to "Christians" (defined as believers that Jesus Christ is the messiah)

Muslims believe this too. Find another definitiong. (Sorry for late post) :p
Is JoeMeyer the same JoE that lurks the Ares chat rooms? :/

Muslims don't believe Jesus is the Messiah. They believe He is just a prophet.

Yea - He is the Messiah, they are just deceived.

No, I'm not (or at least I shouldn't be :S).

Blessings! :D

I dont mean to continue this side tracking, but i cant let that one pass.

Jesus is referred to as al-maseeh ibn maryam (that is: The Mesiah, son of Mary) in the Quran. We may have different understandings of what a mesiah is, but it is believed in Islam that the mesiah (Jesus) will come back and kill the anti christ before the end of days and establish a religous state based on the truth.

If you want quotes i'll get them, but this is fundamental muslim creed and i am in fact a muslim.

That's kind of odd, I was always uner the impression that he was just considered a prophet as well, and lower on the scale than Muhammad. Though are there sect differences?

I'm out of this discussion.

Its just going to end up quoting verses from the Quran and the Bible.

I love a good discussion, but I've been in several, and all turn out the same way.

Religious debates are pretty much always best left at: "You have your beliefs, I have mine"

It all boils down to opinion. Opinions can't be wrong or right, so why bother debating it?

Theres a difference between saying who's right and making clear what we believe. I'm not gonna waste my time pulling out the mistakes of other people's religion, but i think its productive to at least make clear what my own religion believes. Again, i couldn't care less what YOU believe, but dont get the wrong idea about what I believe.

As for Muslims believing that Jesus it he messiah.

"(remember) when the angels said: "O mary, verily God gives you glad tidings of a word (Be, and he was) from Him, his name will be the messiah Jesus, son of mary held in honour in this world and in the hereafter and he will be one of those who are near to Allah" (The Quran 3:45)

Doesn't matter what sect you are of Islam, its right there in the quran.

And about mohamed being better than Jesus (No uh! Jesus is better!!! No uh! Mohamed is!)

"The Messenger (Mohamed) believes in what has been sent down to him from his Lord, and the believers (do too). Each one believes in God, His angels, His books and His messengers. (They say), "We make no distinction between one another of His Messengers" - and they say, "We hear, and we obey. (we seek) Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the return (of all)" (The Quran 2:285)

So there ya go. Cant say either is "better". And cant say that Christians are defined by "Those that believe that Jesus is the Mesiah".

I rest my case

Let's be realistic here.

Every religious text is really just the historical documentation of humanity's encounter with Aliens.

I find it extremely comical when someone who absolutely believes in god rants about the people who believe in aliens.

I like the theorists who think the world and most of the world leaders is controlled by alien lizards. :tinfoil:
