Locking up while zoning or gateing.

Well I'm having a random issue where my PC will randomly lock up while zoneing or gateing. Doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen.
I've defragged the drive.
Reran the patcher with the repatch all option.

Any clues as to what could be happening?

Pentium 4
WindowsXP sp2
512 megs ram
256 meg video card
running in 800x600 on the lowest settings.

I don't think it's hardware as I play Day of Defeat source marathon sessions with no issues.
Shards runs flawlessly until I go to zone, then it occasionally locks up
 
Are you sure its the entire PC and not just the window? Sometimes the zoning hangs since zoning is linked to the login server. So in times of heavy server traffic or retarded hammering, it can be a bitch.
