locked doors

Well, I'm sorry if this has been posted before. I used search and found something on it in a thread on the general forum, but nothing on the suggestion board.

I feel that something needs to be done with regard to doors locking at night in order to prevent players from becoming locked inside. Either make them openable from the inside, or have them not lock at all(as NPC merchants already seem to de-spawn at night anyway), or maybe expel all players from a building before it becomes locked. Aside of making for very unpleasant gameplay(waiting for a door to unlock), it's also nonsensical. What kind of shopkeeper would lock up a store for the night with customers still inside and in plain view? =/

While I agree with you're thought about people being locked in, the doors being locked themselves to keep players out doens't seem that bad to me.

Just because the shopkeeper isn't there anymore, doesn't mean you want someone inside your store.

It would be like us allowed to run around Best Buy after hours...even though there's nothing to really steal that I know of once the store is closed in SoD. Although that would be an interesting idea as a part of a Bard/Rogue quest where they need to lockpick a door in order to get a quest item that only spawns at night time.

Wiz has stated at one point that he plans to hopefully put things of worth to steal from shops locked at night. :10bux:

I know this thread is a bit old, but the OP has some good ideas about the locked doors. I've seen a lot of people posting in guild chat about being accidentally locked inside....

It seems like a good idea to allow people locked inside to unlock the door from the inside or to click on the door to exit, from a roleplay sense it makes sense because most doors can be opened from the inside, unless it's one of those double sided locks that need a key to lock and unlock it on both sides....

I was just wondering if any of the devs were putting any thought towards implementing something to help people who get trapped or not?

"The Day is coming to an end..."

or something like that...5 mins before the doors lock

This has been brought up before, the problem is that there is no reliable way of telling what is the "inside" of a door.

I don't really like this idea, but if its truly a problem something like this might work.
This would probably get exploited somehow, and sounds kind of stupid, but:

Is there any way to have some kind of /cmd that checks the immediate area for a path 'out'?
If you're locked inside a room, it scans X feet from you, and if it finds a continous circle of wall, teleports you 5 feet in a specific direction?

If you were locked in, you'd end up leaving the door unlocked if you left. Rather than do this, concerned citizens simply wait inside until the owner returns!

do you realize just how abusive that would be?
