"Kind of a classic EQ" server in the works

You only count farming VT keys for 1 guild what about that it is a"BLUE" server ( non pvp ) so your guild needs to non stop camp keys to progress faster than another guild and on such server it will be atleast 3 really good guild who will fight over all keys.

And ofc will stuffs happen like 2 guild raid together to zerg down stuffs and inc backstabbing and guild drama and other normal stuffs.

So it will take longer than you really think .

There are a few of us who played EQ since day 1 who will be playing on the progression server. I missed out on some of the original end game and would love a chance at being part of one of the first Plane of Fear attempts.

Some things I would like to see:
Original Cazic Thule zone (doubtful)

Original Plane of Hate / Fear (doubt they will change the god encounters then change them again) It would make sense to just leave the gods out of their planes until Kunark or so and leave all of the epic gear needed on other mobs in the zone (depends on how they do this...I'm sure they are putting a lot of thought into it).

Furthermore, I would also like to see the completion of Hate and Fear to be the trigger for opening Kunark. Vox/Nagafen really does not make sense, since Fear and Hate were added in fall of 99 before Kunark in March of 2000. It really depends because of new Cazic and how they plan on addresing that.

I'm not sure where to add Plane of Sky...I guess part of Kunark.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyways, here are my ideas for progression (provided they do it based off of clearing zones / killing mobs).

Classic: Fear/Hate AND Vox/Nagafen, as well as Phinigel Atropos (The Hole is not included).

Ruins of Kunark: Clearing of Veeshan's Peak mostly; however, possibly add Veksar, Chardok royals, Venril Sathir etc.

Scars of Velious: All major faction Kings (Dain, Tormax, Yelinak) killed, Avatar of War, Sleeper awakened, Ring of Vulak.

Luclin: Vex Thal seems to be the obvious one here

And so on.

I would like to see a time limit as well to keep this from ruining it for everyone. I SERIOUSLY doubt Kunark will be unlocked (if fear and hate are required) until about 3 or 4 months or so, and Kunark will take a LONG TIME for VP to get cleared, simply because of the amount of time it takes to get VP keys, geared for Trak, and the numerous Trak kills it will take to get enough fangs for the VP key.

Velious will be a matter of farming gear, sleeper's tomb keys to gear for north ToV, North ToV gear to help kill warders. That will take several months...figure weekly timers on uber mobs, and you are talking like 3 months minimum.

I would like to see an artificial minimum of five months per expansion. This might be excessive for classic, but 5 months really isn't that long.

Also, it would be (wishful thinking) if they based it off of how much of the SERVER POPULATION had progressed in levels.

There is always the possibility that it won't be based on killing the mobs in game, but rather custom GM events (after a set time period...after expansion content is on farm status) that open the new expansion.

Sorry for the length of this, but I think this could be GREAT if Sony does it right. I've seen how good of a job the devs here can do, but there is just no substitute for the official EQ lore and encounters. If a bunch of people like the SoD devs can do this good for FREE, it should be trivial for SoE to simply revamp a product they have ALREADY created.

Let me know what you think.

all i know is that word on the street is iv might be forming back up for this server and its almost a given they will plow this content faster then anyone and cause some drama in the process.

Don't have to worry about that tho, Maddoc won't let it be too easy to unlock anything, and like said many times before, the sheer time it takes to get a guild keyed for zones like VP/ST/VT/etc while competing versus other guilds is very long.

It totaly depends on what is needed to be beaten and what Guilds end up playing there. If to Unlock Kunark someone hasto clear all of Plane Hate/Fear/Air and Naggy/Vox. That will take a little while even for uber guilds, maybe 2 or so months give or take. To unlock Velious if someone hasto Kill Trak, Clear all of Veeshan's Peak and possible something to do with Epic Quests. That will take a good bit of time, probably not as much as Unlocking Kunark. 2 Months give or take. to unlock luclin will be quite hard and take a good chunk of time. Wake the sleeper? It will take months for the uber guilds to get epics, gear up, get sleeper keys for everyone and then work their way down there, farm Priceless Velium Weapons for a while then wake the SoB. And maybe even clear Plane of Mischief/Growth, there is so much raid content in Velious It twill take a while. 4 or 5 Months or maybe even more. Then after that I dont really care. Luclin was teh shab.

I would say anywhere between 8-10+ months before Luclin is accessable, a year seems about right for PoP, maybe a bit more depending on the guilds, but then again they may make it much more easy then that to access the next expansion and they are to PoP in 4 months.

I'm curious to see how long these guilds' interest will hold. It's not like new games or expansions, where there's the thrill of uncovering new stuff for the very first time. They know exactly what they have to do, what to expect, how to beat the "bosses" and what the rewards will be. Will they really be content to endure all the time sinks (keying, gearing and such) without even the interest of figuring out new content?

I give it a year max before they are past pop

Maddoc isn't going to let it be that fast, he can change what is needed to unlock, can make it so Nag/Vox need to be killed once, or ten times each to unlock Kunark. But seriously, even if its just once, it will take months for one guild to get enough keyed just for VP (you must not have ever done the old VP key)

i did do the old vp quest

and it took me no longer then a week and that was not playing super hardcore.

The ghost whatever outside of seb was the longest camp at like 10 or 11 hours for me, everything else wasnt that long @ all. Got alot of work around the house done on that camp.

You figure with ppl camping it nonstop round the clock it would take at most a month to key them all for vp.

vt/ssra key took me like 2 or 3 days at most, as then i was playing super hardcore with 12+ hour days of eq hah

Were you competing for the key tho? Yes they don't take long... but what if you have to fight for the camps, struggle to kill Trak before another guild, and be one of the ones from the kill that get a tooth.

How often can Trak be killed? What is the max amount of teeth he drops? How many people will need to be keyed in one guild in order to raid VP? And how many guilds were be fighting to be the first?

Just with those factors, it will take quite some time, just like lvling up is going to be a pain for awhile, fighting for camps, spots in groups, and even mobs.

4 teeth per kill max, sometimes 3~

and his respawn time was 7 days, i believe it was later moved to 3 or something =(

It was still 7 days when i stopped playing after OoW iirc, undead bard could spawn at anytime in that 7 days, but the spawned trak doesn't drop teeth.

But with that, only 3-4 people per week can get keyed for VP, and if different guilds get Trak each week, it will take awhile.

After researching it more, I think I'll go ahead and retract my original statements. The devs that are working on this seem to have a very good grasp on what to do. I'm considering giving it a shot when it comes out.
