Keep getting 1017

You've got 5 guys sharing one wireless router?

I think we've stumbled across the problem.

But you ignored my suggestion. I wasn't suggesting running a cable to the router LONG TERM. I was saying run it to the router long enough test if you can connect without 1017's.

You can get a cat5 cable and put connectors on it pretty cheaply. I had to do it when I ran cat5 through my house. (mythtv box in the living room, 2 computers in the basement, router and computer in a converted bedroom.) It's not rocket science, and I'm *not* handy with tools.

Home Depot sells the cable really cheaply, per foot, and the connectors too. $5 for the crimping tool.

But if you really don't want to run a long cable to the router from your computer, MOVE YOUR COMPUTER!

I hadn't even suggested that you have to keep your computer wherever it is to test it. The important thing to test is that it's not the WIRELESS that causing the problem.

And no, no one here wants to read your logs to figure out your problem if you can't meet us halfway.

Ok, ok, my humble apologies for acting seemingly lazy. I appreciate all the help you've given me, possibly above and beyond what could be expected for people working for free. I merely thought that I could give you my IP and account info, and there would be some easy log to say "xxx tried to log in but x".

I'll find a way to get it hooked up via ethernet to the modem and test it, and if the wireless is the issue, I guess SoD and I were never meant to be. If not, you'll hear from me again. :3

Don't give up if it's the wireless causing the problem.

Just right now it's really tough to narrow down what's causing your issue. Eliminating either the wireless signal as being the issue, or verifying it's the wireless, will make figuring it out a lot easier.

If it IS the wireless, there are possible tests that come to mind. For example, have the other 4 guys turn off their computers to see if that helps. Check if others on the router are actually supposed to be there. (you might have a few neighbors stealing your bandwidth). Possibly even one or more of the roommates have trojans on their boxes being slaves to a DDOS network. (distributed denial of service)

But if you have a wired connection going to a single router (with wireless disabled), and from there to the cable company, and STILL get 1017's, then it may be another problem entirely (either a router issue, a cabling issue, or even your ISP doing weird things.)

But the first step is to narrow down the source of the problem.

Update:

So I'm pretty sure it isn't the wireless or the internet at all. I hooked my computer straight up to the cable modem and I'm having the same issue (I have pictures, because it's kind of amusing). It's "submitting to world server" then hanging up. I tried it a decent number of times and it was having the same issue, during a time when there was only 300 people or so.

From what I've read this doesn't 100% rule it out, but it certainly didn't work.

With that "solved", I tried these things:

1. Reinstalling the game and manually downloading the patch files and putting them into the folder
2. Turning off my firewall
3. Turning off anti-virus

None of them seem to work. As I said I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, and I also tried running the patcher in compatibility mode. I'll try a couple more tricks (running EQ in compatability mode, and turning off user account controls, but this is confusing me.)

Thanks for the help already, and maybe you guys have a magic bullet, cause I'm stumped.

debug file posted in case it helps. I bolded the part that looks bad.

It's weird because I can connect to the IP normally (no issues, normal ping). I've searched around for the error codes on google but haven't had much luck. =(

PROBLEM SOLVED.

So, here's what happened. I go into IRC, talk with some dudes. Kas is there and is like "Hey, I remember you, weren't you from like way back?" and I'm like "yeah I totally was."

So he gets my old account restored, and I try to log in, and it works!

See, I was starting to think "Hey, since my new account name is "Lenlalron", and my old character was "Lenlalron", what if some weird thing occured between the two having the same name?

...and that was exactly what it was. So I thank everyone for their help, and I'm now in the World of SoD :D

That seems strange. I know for a fact that there are people with account name of X and have another toon named X on a different account.
