Jumping in SoD (yes, spacebar)

Okay so I'll say up front that this isn't a huge concern of mine, just something that I'm curious about.

When I am bored and waiting for a raid/group/etc I often run around Sadri Malath and try to get to the oddest places I can without buffs.

Some days my character can make certain jumps consistently, while others I will be incapable of jumping the distance. Runspeed is always the same (I click off any runspeed buff and wear my ring with Power of Dreams). I am never encumbered. Weight may vary slightly (50-60/305), but testing shows this to not be a determining factor.

Just figured I'd throw this out there in case someone knows something I don't and can enlighten me.

Also new Erudite racial: 50% higher jumps =p

Doesn't framerate have an impact on jumping distance?

No clue, but I could see that having an impact, and it would explain a lot. I'll try to test it next time I get a chance.

Framerate definitely affects jumping distance. I've also seen it affect how far you can levitate at altitude. The slower the framerate the faster you drop.

Ever since upgrading my computer my jumping has become a lot less high and far. It is both contrary to how I imagined it would be and a bummer.

Same with me Fuwok. I set a lot of graphics to higher settings though, so sometime I'm gonna set everything at lowest again and see what happens.

Ive seen framerate\CPU load affect fall damage. Tested during a series of jumps off of the Kargyxx Tower in SBL. Same principle, perhaps?

I don't think I can take falling damage actually. I move down (when free-falling) at snare speed pretty much.

Sounds like you're running EQPlayNice on Windows Vista or 7. I tried running EQPN but it made my game run in slow motion. CPU load went way down and game ran smoother but everything was in slow motion. Running with FoE on felt like walk mode.

yeah fall damage is weird for me too if you are a gm though you can jump off anything and you still take dmg but i have never died! it's actually weird how thrilling it is to base jump off the refuge spires!!

Sorry to bust your bubble, but it isn't because you're a gm. It happens to everyone.

no way man i have died before BUT I JUST REMEMBERED

in the new client you can throttle your frame rate and this solves the jumping problem the falling problem AND the slow mouse turning problem all at the same time!!! SIGN UP FOR THE BETA TODAY!

noticed this yesterday. I had a torrent that was taking most of my bandwidth and i jumped off a high ledge expectign to take some damage and i floated like a feather down and landed softly.

So...
Step 1: Torrent tons of shit.
Step 2: Jump down the hole in Erimal.
Step 3: ????
Step 4: Profit.
