Item Generator Form
I am blissfully unaware of the work it takes to create programs and features so I just ignorantly spew ideas. Forgive me if what I suggest is too difficult from a technical point of view.
I think it would be kind of fun to have a web based form where players could design weapons and armor for the content developers to use in the game. At its most simple, it could be a form that allows players to fill in the blanks or use pull down menus to create weapons and armor and then save the document in some form that the developers could see. Actually, I guess that players can currently post ideas for items on the Suggestions & Requests forum, but some folks are shy of having their ideas ridiculed in public. Lets face it there are folks who live to belittle all ideas both good and bad.
In a more complex design, the Items Generator Form could turn the players input into a bit of code usable by the game engine so that the developer would only need to select the graphic and the icon and then drop it into the game. For added utility a Reader would allow the developer to scan down through the ideas or even search by weapon or armor type or slot. Uber Content Guy says, "Hmm I need a 2h slashing weapon for this new boss, lets see what the players have created on the generator?" Perhaps the forum would have a box for a Character name to receive Fame Points if the item is used in the game.
Certainly you will have the knuckleheads who will want will create weapons with a delay of 1 and damage of 100. I assume that such entries would not only not be selected by the content developers, the space wasting entry would promptly be deleted from the database.
I know that the staff have more than enough work perfecting the game but not everyone works on the same parts of SoD and this seems more like a web based utility than in game coding. If nothing else a simple form may give the player base a way to provide the content team with item ideas without worrying about the next reader posting, “Dude you are teh suck that would be a stupid ranged piece what rouge would what that crap!? My 70th rouge on Live had a better item then that.” :brow:
