I am having a sudden connectivity problem with IRC. I have disconnected 23 times in the last 3 days. The worst part is I am usually unaware of it until I go to type something in a channel. It will then give me the disconnected message and autojoin thereafter. Anyone else having this problem and/or know of a potential fix? We have rebooted our router and don't run any firewall software.

TIA~

Not having the prob, but I do see you and Dynak dropping and reconnecting a lot during the day. Not running any bit torrent, limewire, anything like that to suck up bandwidth?

IRC really isn't very demanding of bandwidth at all, so you honestly shouldn't be having a problem with IRC for bandwidth reasons. IRC has what, a maximum packet size of 64k?

what could be happening is in ports/router tables. IRC can also be mighty pesky about IDENT, and windows has no native IDENT, which sometimes causes certain servers types to claim you're spoofing your identity.

i'd say to go look at your router tables and your port forwarding setup. check if you've got an ident port setting, and check if it's being forwarded to any particular computer (only one computer in a network can be using ident at a time...)

get back with us with this info and perhaps someone here who's actually read the IRC-related RFC pages could help you out.

Thanks for the idea's - However, this is happening across our LAN:

Ident - probably not, I run IRC off 2 Debian machines running BitchX as a client and have the same problems at the same time as Jayelle. I am suspecting a router issue. There have been no changes made to it lately and I just dont have the time (dare i say motivation - her beatings hurt...) to really look into it. Like Jay may have said though it just started happening within the last month or so.

Thanks again for the suggestions.

Maybe it's all those hits to your Uber website!
HAH! We don't get THAT much traffic. :p

On a side note, I disco'd another 8 times today, so it seems to be roughly every 3 hours or so this happens. Not sure if that sheds any light on the situation.
