incredibly high fps problems?

i've been using fraps to see what my frame rates have been and while playing i'm getting these huge surges of 130-160fps. then everything goes in super speed mode especially the sky, but it gets all jumpy and all of the npcs/pc characters start twitching. it's almost funny, but extremely annoying because i can't go without a minute or two without it happening and it lasts up to until i log off because i can't take it anymore. sometimes it dies back down, sometimes it doesn't.

i do have up to date drivers on this pc. any solutions?

i'm running an amd x2 3800+
geforce 7800gt
2gb ram.

both, seems to be much worse without eqw, but i was just playing for about 15 minutes with eqw without any signs of it and then it just started up. it's pretty bizarre.

thanks for the link and the help. i'm still havin the problems, and i tried rerolling back video drivers and that didn't work. unless both drivers have the same effect. whenever i get back on i'll take some screenshots and post them.

whenever my problems happens. the sky scrolls extremely fast, but it's incredibly choppy as if i'm trying to go waayyy too fast than i'm suppose to. plus some of npc's/pc models grow and twist to enormous sizes. i'm reinstalling everything just to check if i had a bad install or something.

thanks again. i'll post another update soon.

Oddly enough, exactly the same setup, exactly the same problem.

Athlon 3800+ x2, geforce 7800gt, graphics tearing and warping to the point of unplayability.

You tried playing around in dxdiag? Try disabling some acceleration functions on the card, see if that helps. Searched for a cure for this and that link was all I found even remotely similar :?

hmmm..whenever i try to set affinity to eqgame.exe in task manager it keeps saying:

The operation could not be completed.
Access is denied.

any way around this?

okey dokey. i do believe i got it. thanks everyone and nuncio for locating the source of the problem.

i went over to eq's website and found out that you can't set affinity to the game itself because it's a child process of the patcher. and the patcher has to be set to one core and it'll then set the game stopping the error. i just tried this out with logging onto my old EQ account and it runs like a charm.

so setting affinity to sodbin.exe will hopefully fix it~
