Key-rings kick ass.

Kinda gave me an idea about gate necks...

Would it be possible to have a quest/something to get a gate neck that would, idk, maybe as an example, take you to a seperate locked room in your house, where you have access to nothing but an NPC that you can hail and /cm d# to port to a location you have a port clicky or gate neck for? Like someone you can trade your gate neck to and get the option to port to that location from there and free up the bag/bank slot for that item?

The House just seems like a fairly logical location if a seperate area is available, to keep people from banking and zoning back out to anywhere. Lvl 19 and under obv don't have houses, but they generally don't have the bank space concerns you get at later lvls.

This would free up several bank/bag slots used for self-only gate clickies (rivervale, grobb, cult gate, newport, athica, sadri, vah, stormkeep/dhk, possibly things like goblinskull gloves/rsm belt even, maybe deity necks, i'm sure i'm missing a few somewhere in there)...that'd free almost an entire container for...oh...idk, moar ikisith! =D

Also the NPC should definately be a halfling, so people can enjoy his prettiness more.

Give a mouse a cookie.....

But in all honesty, this could be useful. If this happens, why make a second character in the house? Just used the Majordomo dude.

One annoyance I see with this is that you still have to travel to your house first and then travel to where you want to go!

Also, as it currently stands you cannot 'key' to your house unless you are in a city. Gatenecks can be used from anywhere, meaning this new item would have to be usable from anywhere as well. This kinda obsoletes the idea that you need to be in a city to enter your house :p (Imho thats kinda lame on its own, but not the issue here).

Overall I like the idea of using a single item to travel anywhere you can go with your collection of gatenecks, but having to zone twice to get there isnt cool :(

Seems to me, with Dimmi's idea, if you value the inv-space more, do the double port. If you value the convenience more, keep a box full of gate necks on you. I like the idea as well. But somehow I don't think the House will be the right zone for it, logical as it sounds. Not just for the re-coding of the housekey, but logistics of the house zone. Maybe a keyring-type item that when clicked spawns an NPC (envisioning a genie in a bottle here 8-D), who then charges you 25p to port you to anyplace you have completed the gate neck for.

Seems a bit silly to me tho... We have been able to use gate necks freely for years, why suddenly feel a need to 'take some $$ out of economy'?

I mean, if there would be such a quest to combine the necks into a single genie summoning item (i do like that part btw... i am sure there is a lamp item icon available :D) that will port you around... the effort to get it alone should warrent not having to pay for every time u use it :)

You wouldn't have to pay. If you want to lug around a Bag-O-Gate-Necks, then you can. (Personally, that's what I do) But if you combine them all to one item, and you are not double-porting a la Dimmi's idea, then it would seem something has to give. Unless you had to pay an upfront fee like 1K, or do a quest for the item.

I'd be ok with the up front 1k or whatever thing or definitely a quest, but as a monk having to carry cash around for the 25pp fee a port would suck hard.

Gate necks taking space is a pretty small downside for instant transportation around the game world. I think they are staying as they are - I am actually okay with the idea of people picking and choosing which gate necks to have on them.

a better solution would be larger bank only bags or house "containers" being able to hold no drop items. Droppable items can be sent to infinitely many banker alts. Where as no drop items require tons of picking and choosing which to save/pre-using destroy.

This sounds like the best idea I've heard about inventory. You pay for your containers now, and if you pay for just a storage container, not a listsold container, but it can hold the quest crap I never seem to get around to finish? Hell, yeah.

I actually didn't realize when I first went plat & got all the extra containers that you couldn't put no drop items in there.
