is this the right place to post this?

if it is, im having some trouble logging in to any of the servers, i had tried Winter's Roar first as it was my first choice, but never made it past the server select screen, it seems i can only create a char on a 0.5.5 server, but even then i cant get into the game itself. any advice would be deeply appreciated

im really new at this, in fact tonight has been my first attempt, so if im trampling a rule plz let me know
 
Odds are you have patched Gates of Discord (0.5.5) and that patch is not fully up for some servers and its not even started on others. I do not yet know when WR will function unde rit either.

if the GoD content is the culprit, would a clean install with updates that exclude GoD content allow me to play? or are the GoD files coming down with the normal patches from SOE?
 
Its not the GoD content that is messing things up, Its the files that came with the GoD patch on the 10th (and now the files from the 18th are messing things up too). There really is no surefire way to fix this, except to create backup files to use when a patch 'breaks' the emu.
I'm working on a way to fix the files so that I can play as well, but so far I can only get to a certain point before it doesn't work. If I find a way, I'll post
 
You need a pre-GoD version of eqgame.exe to play, and assuming you're using the default ui, a pre-GoD version of EQUI_CharacterCreate.xml to create new chars.
