Im at a deadend!

Treznore

Dalayan Beginner
ok, i play a lvl 40 necromancer, and i have kinda reached a dead end. i like doin quests and such, but i hate grinding for hours apon hours on extended quests. i like leveling, but i hate sitting in one place doin the same repeat fight that i have been doin for the past 2 hours. im wondering if anyone out there has any suggestions as to what i could be doin with my game time that would help out on my lack of enjoyable time. new hunting area's, quests (keep in mind im a Neutral/Highly Evil Necro), or item farming. something that a seasoned player of EQ and SoD could say "Wow, i had FUN today playing for 4 hours!" im also a new father and about to get married, so my playtime is limited to after work since i work night shift. thanks for any ideas you guys can give me!

Have you checked out the Main Quest based on the letter you started the game with? It's a very good quest that has the best augment in the game tied to it, and you get to travel the world of Dalaya.

I have. i have completed the first bit of the MQ, but havent persued it after that first peice. my little brother was attempting it and say it would be time consuming b/c of the travel involved. as stated before, my time to play SoD is short, possibly 2-4 hours every two days. so i need something that can be placed on hold if need be, and something that doesnt involve camping a mob that spawns once every 48 hours....(that was just examples, i know the MQ isnt like that)

The thing is: what do you appreciate?
How can we give you advice without knowing what you like really?
Give us a clue on what you usually have fun in, and we might be able to help you :).

Yes the MQ is time consuming, but it has an excellent story behind it, and you get experience from doing it as well as an upgraded augment as you move along. If you love Lore and a solid story it's worth spending the time to do.

If you're looking for other smaller quests have you looked in to or done any of your Starfall quests? I'd recommend those as well.

I agree with Xardon. And if you get to MQ 4 and do your Starfall quests, by that point in time you could probably start your Thurgadin quests.

Thanks for all the replies. i have completed the first bit of my Starfall and the first stage of MQ. the second half of my Starfall seems to require getting into some sticky places and would require a group to do so. that poses a problem. since i work night shift, i play at the odd hours of the day, and thus there is usually only about 35 players on the server throughout the time i am there. so that would also be a reason i chose to be a necro, instead of a group assist class. but based on the info, i think i may delv into the MQ a little more, see where it takes me...if any other ideas come to light, please feel free to post them, i may be doing the MQ, but i also enjoy multiquesting, just incase i get bored with one quest i can play out another that has different content.

PS or Wiz could just make me a demi-god necro right now with lvls and AAs, and i wont gripe :) j/k little humor...it helps the earth spin faster.

Move around a lot and get groups in different areas. I personally enjoyed going to a place my level and figuring out the best way to kill the zone. I learned some great zone skills and made some cash from the nameds I downed, so when I come back with a group I can make it a fun experience for everyone I'm with. If I start to get burnt out in one area I immediately find another zone or try and finish off whatever quests I'm involved in.

And not to call you out, but exactly what time are there only 35 people on the server? I can't say I have ever seen such a low population in a very long time except after patches and reboots.

Level 40 isn't exactly an easy level to find groups at the best of times. He's probably exagerating about the server pop but the end result is the same, little to no groups.

You play between say 0700 and 1000 hours on the east coast of the US monday through friday. I am on around that time also and server pop is often between 50 and 90 accounts logged on. Many, like me, 2boxing. Finding groups would be hard for anyone when the server pop drops below 100. Most people are either casual players with lowbies, or they live and breath SOD with uber toons. People in the middle have a hard time grouping all of the time. Thanks.

At 40 you shouldn't really have to much of a issue doing your starfall. I havn't looked up the necro one yet, but most of the starfall mobs are in the mid to upper 20s.

The MQ though long in travel time really isn't all that time consumeing in my view. Along the way of leveling I completed the MQ all the way to the 4th stage by level 42. (granted 2 box does make this easyer) but as a Solo toon I would think up to stage 3 wouldn't be to bad at level 40. Some MASSIVE xp bonus along the way as well.

The Thug quest.. well... dispite when the level range starts they really are not ment for anyone under 55. Ground spawns can be gotten by 45s, but any of the mob killing is definitly a no no for a sanyone under 55. On the Shaman thug quest along you have ot take on some low 50th level mobs that hit VERY HARD and have a crap load of hps. Even boxing these guys at 56 was a Big Undertaking. Most of the fights I ended with below 30% hps on both toons and basicly OOM. I know some of the Thug quest are a bit easyer then others but still unless your near 60th level (and even then) dont expect to complet them without a group or a lot of luck.

Definitely say keep moving around, its very easy to get stagnet if you keep the to same zones. With my alts I have been trying to hit new zones and try some different places, I have already found a few places I didn't do the first time around that are excellent xp and cash. Of course I have also found a few zones that are totaly out of wack for the level range and sucidal for a solo. (Fearstone keep comes to mind)

40 is a tough level. What made the game interesting for me what two-boxing. If your system can handle it, a druid would be a great compliment to a necro. A mage could be fun. Heck, even another necro would be a good compliment. And when you first learn to two box, it's not even close to the same boring fight, trying to keep two chars running around. I personally did a shaman and it was a great amount of fun. When I hit about 47 or 48 I started in MielB. There were a lot of light blues as well, but the experience is phenomenal there. To quote something I read, and I wish I could remember who said it because I kept thinking of them the entire time I was in that zone...that 45-55 in MielB is like being powerlevelled. It is too. I am back to soloing with the Necro and the speed at which I am levelling is exorbitant compared to what it was prior to two boxing.

Now, that of course means you would have to level another char up to close to the level of your Necro, so you may want to think about a different class just to have some fun. Also, I don't know how it is here because I have only grouped with people a couple times, but I remember on Live it was occasionally hard for a necro to get a group. Not always. People learned about what kind of damage they could do. And groups here are different too. The experience is the same no matter if you have 2 or 6. I just never tried I guess. I'm on and off so much that I would just annoy people. So you might have decent luck with groups, and they can be a lot of fun if you get a good group.

Sorry about being so wordy! :)

I had problems with some things in my late 30ies but it's definitely doable around level 40.
Besides that, try out Yaralith sewers.

My Starfall quest isnt hard for the first part, but the second seems a bit tricky to do on my own. and as for the times i play, i usually play between the hours or 0300 and 0700 CST. and yes, i have seen less than 50 for the pop dureing those hours.

Hunt guards in random city zones (excluding newport). Usually huge bonus EXP, and nobody except me likely does it. Leveled my bard 46-55 off grobb wardens/various guild NPCs.

Guards?? in city zones?? thought they were buffed to the max and under conned...is this really a possibility?
