I think I know the answer but...

I've tried to use WinEQ2, but failed to get it to work. If you can find a way to make it work and it's not considered against the rules I'd love to know how
 
After checking more thoroughly whyt this program does, I'm far less convinced that it is fine now.
 
I think when similar things have been brought up before the verdict was software that's capable of sending commands to your second EQ client or both clients with one keystroke was against the spirit of the server's rules or something.
 
General rule of thumb, anything that gives you an advantage that someone without the program doesn't get isn't ok.

Exceptions would be things like EQPN or any number of parsers, provided they aren't used to parse the listsold system.
 
My understanding is that EQWin2 is just LavishSoft's implementation of EQW, software that is not only permitted but included in the SoD patch package. The same guy publishes MacroQuest, but I don't believe there are any packet sniffing or other MQ-like features in EQWin that would make it inappropriate for use.
 
... "global activation"? Anything that's letting you put a keyboard or mouse command into multiple clients simultaneously is disallowed. That's effectively automation on the second window.

If the program is only the window aligning and window switching thing, then I'm all for it, but if it's allowing you to automate anything, then that's a problem.
 
I've never seen WinEQ automate anything, however I only ever used it because your mouse isn't locked in the window. It allows you to play window mode, and not alt+tab to get out of SoD. Just a small quality of life improvement.

As I mentioned I tried to see if it would work in SoD long ago, and didn't have any luck. I used to use it for boxing on other EQEmu servers though.

Edit: WinEQ2 Info - Info on WinEQ2. The only thing sketchy in that list seems to be the "Hotkeys for switching sessions, including "Global" hotkeys that can quickly switch to a specific session from any window on your system, help you play multiple characters more efficiently", but it seems to be so you can hit a single key and switch back to a character window. Not sure how to take that though tbh.

If you mean like pressing Alt-1 to switch to the "first" SoD client (whatever that distinction means), then that's fine. That's effectively the same as the option many people use for the accent/tilde key to switch client windows without the use of Alt-Tab.

I should note that options of that sort are primarily for use when there's 3 or more clients being run simultaneously, and the only 2 situations I can think of that such a thing would be useful for while within the limits of the rules are people that load a lot of buffbots to the character select screen and staff members running their staff characters on a third client (hardcoded staff accounts do not apply to the 2-box limit, but I really don't understand people that want to 3 box; that crap is annoying)
 
Yeah I use the tilde key personally now, back when I thought using WinEQ2 would be kinda nice I was manually alt tabbing and trying to avoid random stuff like browser, vent, etc... since changing the bind to tilde alone it makes boxing no problem at all, and rarely do i get keyboard or mouse bugged this way.
 
Thanks for confirming my suspicions Tao. It looked like fun to play with but this is the only EQ I play so I really have no interest in fiddling with WinEQ if this is the case.

having to lead a set of buff bots twice (once for each character) when ur a boxer is anooying.

i dont know too many people who are like man... i wish i could play the tank healer and dps for my own grp. lol
 
Didn't we just upgrade the server to be able to support 1k+ people, What harm would there be in being able to 3 box in citys only?!?! This only serves to speed up things for people. =/
 
This existed a long time ago Draeos and i miss it. Also fuck timers on doors in cmal that stuff is just wack
 
I dont know why we're talking about this. You have all played on this server long enough to know, if we pretend like 3 boxing in cities is a dumb idea and no one likes it... it will be allowed almost immediately. So everyone start flaming people that bring it up please.


Also, npc next to any unbinder. costs 15-25k 1 time activation fee. Can buy dps (focus sv cotp) or caster (won sss sb) buffs clicky. 10k for 20 charges. All soul-bound, all buffs 6 hour length.

expensive enough that only really lazy people will use it, but still a decent plat sink. Maybe give out a 5 or 10 charge per month for plat donators.

People will actually play this game again (maybe), /thread.
