I think the original post re: going and buying the game was simply to say this:
We already don't pay a monthly fee. Technically THAT isn't illegal (it IS against SOE's wishes and their EULA and is punishable by a banning of your live account if you have one, but not actually ILLEGAL), hence EQEmulator's claims of legality. However, SoD distributes a backpatch which IS considered warez and IS illegal. SOE doesn't seem to have taken too much of an interest in stopping it (at least from an outsider's view) which is cool.... but, if the people playing here are going to also circumvent paying for the ORIGINAL game (regardless of the bandwidth costs for downloading the client vs. downloading the patches) that's really just asking for it.
Yes, you can legally download the client. They allow that so that players can download the trilogy and pay a monthly fee without having to cough up the money for buying the client (but, come on, seriously... trilogy costs like $5 in a bargain bin now). That was nice of them. I'm fairly certain however that they did not plan on people using that download to download the client, then use the patcher to download all the expansions, and then use that client to access a server where all the expansions are automatically enabled for any character playing there. Basically, if SoD chose to and built the whole database current to the most recent expansion (Prophecy of Ro or whatever), then every player that played on SoD would have access to all those expansions whether they bought it or not.
Titanium is, what, $19.99 or something? That gives you EVERYTHING but Ro... I can understand not wanting to pay a monthly fee (I can't really currently afford that), and I can understand not wanting to play on servers controlled by SOE... however, I'm pretty sure that everyone could go shovel a driveway, mow a lawn, service some old hag, and get $20 to go buy titanium. If it makes the admin/gms here happy (remember, they ARE providing this game to you for free unless you choose to donate, which I'm assuming anyone who can't cough up the $20 to buy titanium won't be donating) and potentially saves some future headaches, just go do it.
Also, I'm not sure why you seem to feel it necessary to be as spiteful as you are in your posts, Hayley... I'm certain my post will be met with the same "If you only understood anything at all" kind of attitude. It IS possible to discuss things in a somewhat nicer manner I'm sure. One person incorrectly asserted that your download link was a virus; big whoop. If the admins/gms lock this post, then that's fine... it's their board. It's their server. It's their time and money that keeps this project running. If they want to believe that there is danger in the use of Enduring Breath spells and therefore ban them from the server, so be it; just because you are obviously much better informed and of a far superior intellect does not remove their license to run this project as they see fit.

Calaran, it's hard to tell someone who's convinced that they're right that they're wrong without it seeming mean to that person. I'm also not as well informed as you make me out to be, in fact I'm quite baffled by how Sony is supposed to detect what you're doing with the software you download from them. I mean, it's not like you give them any sort of personal information to download it. I guess those of you who are convinced they have this ability are more in the know than me.
