I don't know if its possible, legal, or wanted, but..

First off, let me say im mightily impressed with what winters roar is. I'm new to the community, but the level of respect and pleasant attitude of the regulars here make WR far and away superior to live.
In any case, one thing that has always bugged me about EQ is some of the 3d models for weapons and certain parts of armour on various models, and some really bad textures as well.
I do a little 3d modeling, mostly props and aeronautical designs, stuff like that, but I'd love to revamp some of the textures and models in EQ.
Now again, I don't know if this goes against WR policies, but I'd like to offer my services to perhaps create some slightly updated versions of lower-end weapons, and textures in old-world areas, just to show my appreciation of what a great job has been done here. Let me know if you'd like to talk further about this subject.
A very few of some of my 3d designs can be found here.

/edit
This is probably the most relevant thing I have up on line at the moment. None of these are using textures, just material properties. They are rough.

I think everyone would fully embrace this, so long as it doesn't cut down on gameplay performance.

Many of the texures in old world zones were designed to run on voodoo2's and voodoo3's with 12 and 16mb of ram, on intel pentium II's and amd K62's, usually with 64 to 128 mb system memory. Making better textures could help immersion quite a bit.
The models I have on deviant art are kinda of high poly, but very easy to reduce poly count and still have them look great.
Again, I'd love to do some work to help immersion, and to show my appreciation for the hard work done here.

(Now if I can just stop crashing every time i zone :))

This would be very nice. Please PM me sometime on IRC when I'm around and I'll discuss it with you.

Great, Wiz.
Unfortunatley, i can only make 3d models and textures. I don't know how to import them into EQ, so that would be up to you. I'd also need to know how textures wrap in the EQ engine. Very doable, I'm sure, but I'm only an artist, not a coder :)

OK, I'll get on IRC tongiht, see if yer kickin around.
What I'll need is some of teh 3d objects we will be replacing in just about any 3d format we can get it, and a readable (tga, bmp, whatever) of the texture used on it.
Texture maps for landscape would be good too.

Nuncio, those models are sexy, very nice work. I am all for wielding one of those instead of the typical cookie-cutter graphic of a fine steel weapon. If this is doable, and can be kept reliatively low-poly, I would love to see this put in.

Hmm...

So, would it be possible to create new models, or just update or replace old ones? I dunno anything about the programming aspect, but it seems to me they prolly oughta have left some space for expansion, right? Also, what programs can be used to open the models? I wouldn't mind messing around with it a bit, though I doubt I'll come up with anything usefull.

Ive been looking at that thread, they haven't been very forhcoming with their info. I'm still game to make some new graphics and textures, but the info is limited, and I'm an artist, not a programmer :\
