How to get new players

HI:

I noticed the post on the main page about getting new players to play. I was wondering if you folks had ever considered a new server with limited content? You might call it "Progressive", but any server where everyone is new and has to grow into content together, usually fosters new players to try it, grow their character, and stay.

ALL MMO's I have ever played have one problem. Your core players get to max level, raid to get max gear, then log on to raid only. Occasionally they role up a alt, but when they do, they blow through content with twinked out gear from their main. Starting zones become ghost towns, with very few people available to group.

I have played your game, and it has some great merit. I thought you might consider this?

A new server only brings in a set number of people, before they are also doing high end raiding and newbies are left to fend, then what another server? This can be an endless cycle, just need an active community bring in friends, family and associates and the game will grow sure some zone may hardly ever see activity but that is where the Dev team can step in and run events for low level toons or something similiar. It is simply activity that will keep people and draw more in not a consant 'let's make another server attitude'. IMO

Maybe when the new server grows enough population and when the players become veteran, a consideration about merging the once "new" server to this existing server can be made.

It can be a one time deal, if the new server could attract 200+ players then merge together with the existing one, it will bring the population to be constantly over 500+. That's a very healthy # IMO.

SoD doesn't follow this trend. There is not a single character in the game that doesn't need more exp. Even people who play top 5 classes play often and look for exp groups.

I also do not feel there is enough people playing this game to justify two servers of any kind.

Two servers also would not work because some people from the original server would move to the new server, so now your population has decreased on the first server, making it harder to find groups in both servers.

New servers should only be created if there is an overcrowding problem. Not to mention another server would increase the cost to run the server as well as require extra Devvery and Administration.

I do agree with the OP, there are great benefits to growing into content together. I also think there are a lot of under utilized low-end zones on this server. Many of which are never used. I imagine they aren't used because people are reluctant to try a new zone in favor of leveling in the tried and true manner (NP > BB > Warpstone > Kaladim > KingsPass/Badlands/Heartlands ... ). There are zones like Runneyeye and Oggok Mines which are ... I'll go there, never used.

My point is, there is content available on this server that can be explored with a group of SoD veterans, where those veterans have little to no knowledge of the zone. There are opportunities here to grow into content together - if you push for it.

True or not, people are still free to get like minded people together and experience the content in game any way they please.

Make a guild and Progress through the game in any way you like. Why do you need a new server to force rules on you for you to enjoy the game. Enjoy it how you wish without rules.

While new players are always nice, based on the age of the game and the style of server, there is probably only a finite amount of players to bring in. What should be happening over the past 2 years or so would be to work to keep the existing players that keep returning instead of pushing them out. Most people quit because of how out of whack the raid tiering is progressively. It's been brought up hundreds of times but deemed A-OK.

To date there are less than 100 people who have seen the highest tier of raiding SoD has to offer...there is no where near a lack of content for 99% of the people playing.

And what would you consider the highest tier of raiding, Driizz? Completing Cmal 4.3? (mega grats guys) Custodian? Abyss? IS? 8 Arm? MK? MT? MB? Maybe Tur'Ruj? All of Fae? Grats to the 6 people out of 250+ that have completed all of those events. Seriously grats though guys!

I was mostly talking about IS, Spires, Abyss, the hardest 6man stuff, and Tur'Ruj. Maybe over 100 have done IS by now but it can't be much higher.

Basically what I was saying is that there is still a ton of content for everyone and no one single toon is near maxing out. We don't need a new server obviously..

I don't think gwaine was really talking about the lack of content but more so the "barriers of entry" to Raiding on SOD. Really to make it past a certain tier takes a certain amount of effort and ability to get along with the people who have been here forever.

A new server lets people start on even footing rather than being 6 years behind. But In all honesty I still don't think it'd bring in enough new blood to support two servers.
