conerning the mount comment, you dont actually have to have new models to use mounts, on live, for a long time, there was the option to use mounts with the old client, they just didnt appear visable, you gained the full benifit of standing meditation from them, but no speed boost for older models.
so its possible, the devs just need to know how to activate or re - add the code.
