How similar are the classes in SoD to the original EverQuest

Obscenitor

Dalayan Elder
I'm an oldschool EverQuest player, and I ended up quitting right around when they introduced the Planes of Power, since I was rather disappointed with the game at that point. Were the classes themselves changed, and if so by how much? I played a Troll Shadow Knight and it was in my opinion by far the most fun class but also the least useful in high end raiding... has this for example changed?

Thanks in advance.

At the high end some encounters require a shadowknight to tank. So we arn't all that useless!

Also, it's been a long time since I have played, and I would be quite rusty, any recommended SK websites I could visit?

Just one though!

I would like to add that it seems tanks are the most sparse class in the mid levels. Could just be my experience though.

In my experience, it's better to play an entirely different class on SoD than you did on live (at least your first character) because so much is already so different, having your known class seem unknown can be frustrating.

Take it or leave it, SK's are different here than on Live. Play one if you want. But if there's any other classes you've ever wanted to try out, I'd say this is the time!

Rabb, you need an sk ( or pally ) for 3 fights actually

Mirrors, Glib, Abom

Sk's are hands down the best class for holding aggro.. even over a chain nuking wizard or an insane dps monk / ranger / rogue

You just have to watch the DPS on them, or the fight is ruined. (it trickier than that, but :D )
Gibbering Abomination ripostes every melee attack from the front.
GLib procs a HUGE slow on the person on the front of the agro list.

I agree wholeheartedly. I always played a high elven wizzy on Live, what can I say? I like Wizards. I now have a Dark Elven SK and I've never had more fun w/EQ, and the other night I made a new alt, a Gnomish Warrior, and I was having so much fun with him I hit level 4 in an hour. He's going to be my huge DPS dealer, and my SK is going to be my aggro lord. I plan on dying more with my SK tho. And my warrior is going to be interesting, since I have always had some sort of spell, and now that is most noteably absent :/

Mind me asking what's the trick with Mirror Golems that make them SK-tanked mobs?

If I can remember right, there's 2 Mirror Golems you fight at once (#1 and #2 let's say). Everyone has to be attacking only #1, if anybody touches #2 (which the SK is tanking), #1 is completely healed. At 50% you have to switch to #2, and the same thing applies... touch #1 and they are back at 100% HP. You need the SK to keep aggro from the healers with his spells, since he can't touch the mob he's tanking.
