Highly contested quest mobs

While were at it can we move the perma frost challice off of the Vah dragon in DN and give it to the other named dragon in DN? I think that part of the Blade of Suffering quest took the name a bit too literally, especially for .76 sword. I mean I love my sword and I would do the quest over again but I would also post that Dragon's respawn time publicly just to fuck with the people who ignored my request to join for a QP they let rot every time...

I took it upon myself to start this quest on my alt when this thread started, completed the quest a few weeks ago and I didn't go too crazy with tracking. While it's a little rough to get the assassinations, the only trouble I had was finding EO up.

the real quest was to get Tevinter an evac hat so technically you arent done yet bro

Sure, the tracking monsters part isn't fun. Maybe it's just me, but catching the monster up, quietly gathering a group of friends, racing to the zone, and killing the monster I had been waiting for was an awesome time and something I don't get to do frequently. If it weren't for Vah, maybe I never would have done it, and I think missing that would have made my SoD experience lesser, somehow.

Yeah, I would like people to experience those great times like I did. Maybe that's selfish. I don't know.

Yep, just you. Great times are largely subjective and while you found elation from comradery and and overcoming an obstacle it could have ended very different. Let me give you an example.

There is nothing fun about not being able to complete a T2 quest for a sword because people 8 to 11 tiers higher also want a QP for an item that is many tiers above the mob you are killings level. So you spend a good three or four months farming up the rare drops only to find the mob you need is on perma-camp status and all attempts to get in on a kill are met with silence or actual "fuck off"s. So now you'll be camping for another 4 to 5 months until the one day you find the mob up and no one in your guild is on because they all have jobs so you can't assemble a team and you can't shout for more because its gonna get sniped if you do. So you frantically text people in your guild praying someone was sick that day and you start to contemplate breaking the boxing rule because its a matter of moments before someone finds out your secret. Too bad all of the begging in the world is not going to stop that T10-13 guild that just zoned in from coming in with just 3 toons and dropping that mob. Keep in mind, they also won't invite you for the QP they are going to let rot because they don't want to take the chance at you ninjaing their piece for a quests that has a mob on perma-lockdown. They will just walk by you, ignore your /tell /shouts and /says, walk past all the corpses you killed right up to the boss. The only silver lining is that now you know when the mob is going to be up +/- 12 hours so you can log on and watch them do it over and over again for the next month. Then finally, one day you find someone on that part of the quest who manages to get his ringer friend over and after one failed attempt they are willing to take the chance of having you in group because they saw another T10+ group forming up and heading over and your pocket healer is probably all they will need to get that kill.

The elation you feel from finally getting a mob you camped for 6 months + is not joy or happiness its relief. The relief I got out of it was finally being able to complete a quest that has T1 and T2 mobs that were constantly camped by T12s whose power level was so high they could solo/duo the mobs before I could assemble the 5 other people I needed to get it done. The only thing worse than having to spend almost a whole year to get a .76 sword because of these bottle necks is being able to replace the sword less than 10 hours later with a BoE.

I'm not a fan of the vah quest and the effects it has on lower tiered people, but there is absolutely no way you've had more than a couple high tier people deny you an invite for the rotting sword QP. 99% of the high end people on this server would have no problem inviting you. I think there's more to the story, there has to be. I've had people from competing guilds let me join them for something or other way more often than I've been rejected.

While in general I would agree, this is one time I can't. There are certainly high end guilds I can say work hard to not screw other people and to include people that are not in their guild but it is certainly not the standard. There are plenty of people who couldn't give less of a fuck what you are working on. I don't want this to turn into a "the top 3% think they own this game" because its way off topic and its probably the same 15-20 people so it would be unfair to chastise whole guilds and the majority of the top end which is why I haven't named names. Sadly though you see it all the time, its not just Vah shit.

An example is in First Ruins when I was farming the entrance ghosts for CoI drops. If it wasn't irritating enough that those pages were already fairly rare drops and they only drop off 12 to 15 mobs that re-spawn incredibly slowly but apparently there is no way for any group to go past without pulling all but 3 (one of which cant drop the QP).

I have asked people to let me pull them all before they go past (I can handle that fine), I have tried asking people to wait, I have tried to be polite to the point it hurts but you cant tell me that people can't jump off at the stone ramp, especially when they end up pulling half to all of the fiends anyway.

I doubt I have a bad rep, I rarely group outside of my guild and when I am in an area and people want to group in there I am more than willing to let them join or drop my box and join them or sometimes even just surrender the area to them. I hardly talk in OOC and with very few exceptions I am polite and courteous whenever I am contacted or contacting people.

In fairness one of the guilds who ignored me twice happened to be the one who invited me the time I got it, so it is less about guilds and more about people. It isn't because they are high end, it isn't because gear is too powerful, it isn't because guilds are too incestuous it's because some people are just assholes.

as for reducing cash off assassinations, the intent would be for the mobs to not be so heavily camped. the plat drops can just as easily be viewed as the means by which these mobs are made bottlenecks. so, the debate roughly translates as the extent to which this part of the quest should be a bottleneck.

Flaahn that was my point i the first place. As for experiencing the reward of completion... i finally got my advisor kill but only because my good friend called me to get info from me so he could do it for me because i wasnt able. and while i am more than thrilled to be done with this portion and much thanks to Soicon... its flipping retarded thats what it had to come down to for it to get done after months of tracking! So much for feelings of accomplishment... nothing left but relief and that needs to change

I wasn't going to comment on this thread, then I was, then I wasn't ... now I feel like, oh what the hell ...

I completely gave up on many of the long drawn out quests like The Vah, mainly because I don't have the time to dedicate to tracking 6 times a day or to log in when, "OMG it's up at 2:30 AM!" Okay, in reality I gave up on the vah quest because it's severely bugged on Aynahe. After a petition, A gm told me that a dev would have to take a look at it. I never pursued a fix. Why? Because it got bugged in the first place when a friend tried to help me out with the parcelain kill in DN. If he had been able to complete the quest for me, it's as Swiftur said above ... I would have had absolutely no satisfaction in it, just relief that at least that hellish portion of the quest was over. Now, on any of my characters I consider the Vah quest "done" when I have the gate neck and the t-map quest item upgrade completed. The real irony here is that I think I have killed some of the mobs being contested here ... for their cash drops. Yeah, I'd support changes like making these essential quest mobs drop no money and all of their items NO DROP. I'd probably even support making their respawn more frequent to allow more casual players a better chance at finding them up.

I think what it comes down to is differences in preference for style of gameplay. Some people enjoy the style of the quest, others don't. Sure, tracking is tedious, not difficult, largely dependent on luck, etc... but that same point of view can be applied to .. literally any aspect of the game, it seems. Vah quest is neither mandatory, nor meant to be completed in a month. I've been working on my monk's vah on and off for a couple years, but personally I enjoy having that long checklist of items to pursue. I don't think anyone has completed the vah quest without experiencing some frustration, but I would argue that frustration (as well as every other negative emotion) are necessary counterparts to any positive emotion you can experience in a sustainable way.

Edit: I'm not really an active player anymore so I may be out of touch with the reality of the situation. If it is an issue, I hope it gets fixed. Good luck questing.

I did the vah when the server numbers where x2 from what it is today. Its kinda a grp effort to get all things done. I have helped several of my guild members with their vah quest involving the hard parts "poearth salves , Assasinations and Parcy" Its all about the sharing the information with ppl. We updated on our forums when someone killed it and ppl scouted more on the day when it should pop. We managed to kill the same mob several times cause of this. Beside every step of the quest gieves you a new banner. So the rewards are huge and the end banner is just awsome. The vah was made to be a huge time sink.

Ezie i feel your pain i wish they move the item from Parcelean and should move it to the other yellow con dragon in DN.
