So yea just curious on whats a good class and everything for a new player. Have not played EQ before but had friends who played and had a blast with it.. i really enjoy ranged classes so was looking at ranger and just wanted to know what everyone thought and if a ranger would be good for starting class
 
Ranger is a great class. You can box here btw. But no more then 2 accounts logged in at a time. A lot of rangers box druids here. Though any priest would be fine. I posted a wiki link in your hello post, you may want to check it out.

If you are brand new, you may want to keep in mind classes don't really begin to differentiate much until they reach their teens. Also, you may want to dabble around with classes. I did when I started here three years ago. Helped me with my final choice.
 
Rangers are nice because they have a place in partys as damage dealers but they are good soloers too. You will grow accustomed to something called bow-kiting. Its basically where you run circles around your enemy and pluck him with arrows. When you get Spirit of the Wolf this aspect of the ranger really picks up - as their tanking abilities start to drop off. Try to get a good bow early on and keep skilled in it so your not level 30 and have like 25 points in it. Check out the leveling guide for rangers on the wiki here:

If you want a pet and a place in the group and a bunch of utility spells, check out Shaman.

Most of all, play what you like; try a few different options out.
