Im thinking about starting a necromancer tonight. Now i have played one on live till about level 53 or so but im a little ocnfused on how to play one without a fear spell. I tried a necro a few weeks ago but my pet kept dying fairly easy due to the fact that he couldnt really tank the mobs. Does anyone have some pointers on how to make one / play one?

Any help is greatly appreciated..

Thanks

Try snaring and keeping aggro with spells or sitting down and runing around. Fear is overrated imo. Necros are very good at pretty much everything and i think not having fear is no big deal.

Try getting a SOW and then don't snare mob, and then keep agro with dots.
The snare thing was changed so that snare makes melees get more agro (to prevent fear kiting), I don't know if this was changed back.

snare might make the mob hit your pet now though like with root but i am not entirely sure

That's pretty much it. Also note that in the lower levels you can melee a bit to take the heat off of your pet(can do this at higher lvls as well somewhat) but the key to keeping it alive is to get the agro on you if he's low, whether it be by kiting, sitting, or heading into the thick of battle yourself.

I had the same problem too. Our pets are crap without fear, and alot has to be done to get your pet to live. (I HATE resummoning it...takes around 1 1/5 bubbles of mana)

I try to go to open zones, and caste Darkness on it, while its far away, and dot it three times, and life tap it, that seems to keep agro pretty well.

Also, when my pet gets to around 30% health, I just tell him to back off and he'll run to me, and not get caught cause the mob has darkness still in effect.
Then I just run it around and let the DoTs do the job. Kiting and Dots and Darkness are our best friend.

One thing that compensates no fear is the WR's custom "DoT's that heal your pet" spells. EG. Leaching Spirit, Vampiric Spirit, as they are dotting and healing your pet at the same time, does help a little hehe.

Anyways, I hope you found this useful.
