Help for the semi-newb

Arif

Dalayan Beginner
I have been enjoying the game very much. I have gotten my shaman/monk duo to level 25. I have used the information that is here and on other sites and word of mouth. I often read that I should just go and explore. However, I am not even sure of how to achieve that. As a vetreran of eq maybe I have become spoiled but it is very hard to go back to the way I was six years ago when I first heard of the aviak village. I see the zone connection maps but there is so much lore or information about the game that someone new (like me) has to learn through slow trial and error. I just found out about cmd bind! I see that it says coach on the zone connection map, I have no idea what that is. I want to go to Kaladim, I have no idea how to get there. I feel like the constant ooc spam asking questions is tiresome and frustrating. Tiresome when I hear the same questions over and over and frustrating when no answer is forthcoming. The wikepedia doesn't show what is in it. It may have the answers I am looking for but I don't know how to get them. The game is great, really fun and well designed. I am just desiring a bit more help with getting to know it better. +

Sorry to hear your having a tough time getting info through /ooc Arif, I agree that it has been filled with an unusual amount of spam lately. I recommend you join an active guild. Or, send me a tell if I'm on and I'd be more than glad to help you out. My characters' names are Traul and Borour (I Dual Client), I'm on quite a bit. :)

That goes for anyone. If they ever have any questions or comments, just send a tell to Ramblo or Kambing. I'm more than happy to answer questions.

Not sure what your actual question is Arif, but I can write out a mini guide as to where to hunt. I did this back when I was leveling up, but the game has changed quite drastically since then (mainly CC has been removed for tuning).

I would do Miel A over Kaladim at 25. Not sure if you're familiar with Upper Guk, but it's not too hard to get to a good spot to camp. Just go in and left, you'll come to a ladder, go down there and there are plenty of mobs to kill. These instructions suck, but if you're familiar they should help, perhaps.

Miel A will take you to 30 no problem, 34 if you go past the Magicians (which is tough, perhaps try invis).

From 34 to 42, Paw is good. The entry stuff alone will take you to 42. There are problems with getting mezzed and such, but it's still a very good place with a very nice zone exp. bonus.

42 to 54, I went to Lower Guk. You may need a group at first, but once you hit 50 you can start duoing easily. Hell, before that you can duo easily. Just make sure to split the pulls.

After 54, there are a plethora of options that will yield both good exp. and loot. Dragon Necropolis is a favourite of mine. The trash mobs (snakes, spiders, goos, etc) will take you to 60 no problem, and are easy. Labrynth (Velks) may be a bit tough at 54, but the spawn is slow so it really wont' matter. The Deep (very nice bonus, pretty easy to get to) is probably my zone of choice. Plus the Rare Fungus drops some nice loot for both of your characters (depending on what tunic, gloves, and range item you currently have).

The Deep is dark blue until 58, 59. Once that level, I suggest going to Siren's Grotto, the WW side. Kill the stuff there, which will take you all the way to 65.

At 65, go to The Blight. You'll need EB, and that is probably the most challenging part about the zone. It's boring as hell, but decent exp. Get a few AA's from here, then move onto better zones. In fact, you can skip The Blight completely and head back to DN, this time taking out rats. The bottom of Velks (Lab.) is pretty good as well, but it may not be as duoable as you'd like.

Quick easy leveling guide with some ideas. There are a lot more zones and a lot more content out there, but this just seems easy and has his exp. modifiers in most of these zones (minus DN). This was certainly not the way I leveled up, but I wish I had.

I would like to throw in a couple of places to fight as well...

If you can get a group going, head to Yaralith for lvls 44-51. Xp there is unbeatable in my opinion, and they drop things that sell nicely to merchants. You would be fighting the Squid-faced guys in the sewers. Try to get levitate for your puller, it helps a lot

I found Sanctus Seru to be good xp 51+, the mobs are easier than any I've seen anywhere else.

If you're duoing for experience, try looking for more players to fight with (like if they're in the zone with you). There's no experience penalty after 2 players in a group, so if you have 2, you might as well have 4, 5 or 6.

Thanks all for such quick and generous replies. The server is fun and you all have shown me that the players are kind to match it. There are just so many little things that need to be learned. For example, I did a who all on folks 24-30 and found a 25 mage in fungus grove. I spent time there in eq live and thought that might be a place to go for a bit. So I asked in ooc how to get there. No response. I don't mind that; I don't expect that others are playing to answer my questions. I like grouping also, so all the advice is great. There is just a steep learning curve. I see it with my son who is 15 and is starting here. Explaining things to him, like assisting, or waiting for the tank to get aggro, or how to deal with being a necro, sheesh it is a lot of stuff. But just having some folks that I can give a tell to when I have saved up a bunch of questions helps! So, Thanks.

Asuming you are in Newport and running there:

Take the Translocator in North Newport to Taldor Malath, it will zone you to Twilight Sea. Go South West to the island with the castle on it, on the roof there is a circle portal that you click on to get to Fungus Grove.

I see a lot of people saying to go to paw or miel b around 42, but i have a 42 sk and find it very hard to hunt in these two zones. The main problem with paw is that it is such a far run for a group, then when you get there the people usually port out or the group falls apart. Basically I'm just asking if there any other zones around my level that would be easier to maybe single pull things for some slow solo exp or anything along that line?

Geonads in Fanetharc would be alright at 42, with a group anyway. They were dead easy at 50 duo. Just get a port there, and wham, you're killing. They are in the tunnels, and used to be non aggro (not that that really changes anything).

Past that, I really don't know...Oh, you could do wyrms in Great Divide. Again it'll require a porter, which kind of sucks, but you will also be getting giant faction while there (if you want that faction).

I want to thank Rambler for his advice on Miel A. The mobs are nice blues that I can duo easily with the monk and the shaman. The zem in this zone keeps the exp coming. I am getting kind of itchy to actually see a named mob somewhere. I don't even know where any are in BB, The Warrens or Miel, all zones that I have exp in so far. Anyway, thanks for the tip, this zone is great with the room with only one mob spawning and lots to grab close by!
