Heat

I think I am in love with this new heat system, though I would like to suggest some tweaks.

First off, Heat in Newport, gives you heat everywhere globally it seems. I don't particularly like that myself, and was wondering if it were possible to change that to a more local area? Maybe within 3 zones or so of the offended area?

Secondly, I generated heat, and thus agro, by lockpicking near a guard. I know that that is supposed to happen, but the problem is, I was successfully sneaking, and his back was most definantly turned. I was watching him as I was doing it, in third person mode. Theoreticly, he should not have seen me, and thus I should not be dead right now, typing this. :p

Were these two things intended? if so, maybe I could ask really nicely to have that changed? :)

It would be pointless to have noone see you pick lock if you were hidden, I could just as well not have anyone see you ever.

So that part WAS intended. And while it doesn't really make sense from a realistic standpoint, I agree it would be pointless to have heat if you could get around it with sneak/hide.

Good point Wiz, and thankyou for pointing that thread out. :)

How about the other suggestion though?

It was mentioned somewhere that the coding involved would be far too extreme to take away global heat.

Heat is going to remain as it is. While unrealistic, it would be a major project to properly tie areas that should share heat together, not to mention that I would have to speed up its generation so you couldn't just go on a stealing spree all over the world.

Who said heat stopped stealing sprees? It merely slowed me down a bit (sneak/hide is your friend).

It's not supposed to STOP stealing sprees, it's supposed to promote being careful on those stealing sprees, and it'd be kinda pointless if you could just go to another city as soon as you were careless. :)

Game balance/enjoyment trumps realism in this case. Much the same way game balance/enjoyment trumps realism as far as making fireballs from thin air goes. :)

Alrighty then, you've convinced me to your ideas, even though You never had to, seeing as how I don't have any say anyway ;p

It really isn't that unrealistic. The more heat you generate, the more well-known you get, i.e. it really isn't unlikely that they hear tales of your robbery worldwide.

In two minutes? :psyduck:

haven't you played any crpg's people know exactly what happened even if there were no witnesses to the actual event

Duh. The guards send each other /tells.

Newport Guard tells you "Be on the lookout for a male human in leather armor. Subject is armed with a dagger, repeat, a dagger."
Erudin Defender tells you "Damn foo, why don't you dudes just arrest everyone wearing leather who carrys a pointy weapon? It would save time bro."

I am telling you all for the last time, Postmaster. That is how one group of guards notifies another! They send a polaroid and a note, "Here is X stealing the crown jewels! Better guard your jewels well!"
